AppHcations for electroplated indium coatings include indium bump bonding for shicon semiconductor die attachment to packaging substrates and miscehaneous appHcations where the physical or chemical properties of indium metal are desired as a plated deposit. 

Mercury layers plated onto the surface of analytical electrodes serve as Hquid metal coatings. These function as analytical sensors (qv) because sodium and other metals can be electroplated into the amalgam, then deplated and measured (see Electro analytical techniques). This is one of the few ways that sodium, potassium, calcium, and other active metals can be electroplated from aqueous solution. In one modification of this technique, a Hquid sample can be purified of trace metals by extended electrolysis in the presence of a mercury coating (35). 

The more important metallic coating methods such as electroplating, spraying, hot-dipping and diffusion have already been considered. There are, however, several other methods which have certain advantageous features and therefore find exclusive application in specific fields. For molded-plastic patls, vacuum coating techniques are increasingly replacing conventional coating methods, such as electroplating. For example, using vacuum coaling methods, automobile reflectors obtain a mirror-like surface, plastic articles in the furniture, decoration, clock and vratch as ell as electronics industry are metal-coated and optical effects are created on articles in the decoration industry. 

Metal Coatings. Tellurium chlorides, as well as tellurium dioxide in hydrochloric acid solution, impart permanent and attractive black antique finish to silverware, aluminum, and brass. Anodized aluminum is colored dark gold by tellurium electro deposition. A solution containing sodium tellurate and copper ions forms a black or blue-black coating on ferrous and nonferrous metals and alloys. Addition of sodium tellurite improves the corrosion resistance of electroplated nickel. Tellurium diethyldithiocarbamate is an additive in bright copper electroplating (see Electroplating).
