Electrochemical corrosive method

This book systematically summarizes the researches on electrochemistry of sulphide flotation in our group. The various electrochemical measurements, especially electrochemical corrosive method, electrochemical equilibrium calculations, surface analysis and semiconductor energy band theory, practically, molecular orbital theory, have been used in our studies and introduced in this book. The collectorless and collector-induced flotation behavior of sulphide minerals and the mechanism in various flotation systems have been discussed. The electrochemical corrosive mechanism, mechano-electrochemical behavior and the molecular orbital approach of flotation of sulphide minerals will provide much new information to the researchers in this area. The example of electrochemical flotation separation of sulphide ores listed in this book will demonstrate the good future of flotation electrochemistry of sulphide minerals in industrial applications. [Pg.19]

Electrical conductivity is of interest in corrosion processes in cell formation (see Section 2.2.4.2), in stray currents, and in electrochemical protection methods. Conductivity is increased by dissolved salts even though they do not take part in the corrosion process. Similarly, the corrosion rate of carbon steels in brine, which is influenced by oxygen content according to Eq. (2-9), is not affected by the salt concentration [4]. Nevertheless, dissolved salts have a strong indirect influence on many local corrosion processes. For instance, chloride ions that accumulate at local anodes can stimulate dissolution of iron and prevent the formation of a film. Alkali ions are usually regarded as completely harmless, but as counterions to OH ions in cathodic regions, they result in very high pH values and aid formation of films (see Section 2.2.4.2 and Chapter 4). [Pg.34]

Electrochemical On-Line Corrosion Monitoring On-line corrosion monitoring is used to evaluate the status of equipment and piping in chemical process industries (CPI) plants. These monitoring methods are based on electrochemical techniques. To use on-line monitoring effectively, the engineer needs to understand the underlying electrochemical test methods to be employed. This section covers many of these test methods and their applications as well as a review of potential problems encountered with such test instruments and how to overcome or avoid these difficulties. [Pg.25]

More often the passive layer is broken down locally and then the steel is said to be attacked by localized corrosion, the most important forms being pitting, crevice corrosion, and corrosion cracking. Most often the localized corrosion is caused by halogen ions such as chloride, bromide, and iodide. Pitting or pitting corrosion is seen as small pinholes on the surface of the steel. This section describes electrochemical instrumental methods to investigate and measure this form of corrosion attack. [Pg.282]

Abstract The flotation mechanism is discussed in the terms of corrosive electrochemistry in this chapter. In corrosion the disolution of minerals is called self-corrosion. And the reaction between reagents and minerals is treated as inhibition of corrosion. The stronger the ability of inhibiting the corrosion of minerals, the stronger the reagents react with minerals. The two major tools implied in the research of electrochemical corrosion are polarization curves and EIS (electrochemistry impedance spectrum). With these tools, pyrite, galena and sphalerite are discussed under different conditions respectively, including interactions between collector with them and the difference of oxidation of minerals in NaOH solution and in lime. And the results obtained from this research are in accordance with those from other conventional research. With this research some new information can be obtained while it is impossible for other methods. [Pg.167]

The specific natures of surface techniques and, in some cases, their applications to corrosion have been discussed by a number of authors. General use of surface tools in Corrosion has been discussed by Larson (8), Joshi (j), 10) and in the PHI Interface Volume 3 2 (1980). There has been considerable application of surface methods to electrochemical corrosion (11-15) including use of various types of vacuum compatible corrosion cells (16,... [Pg.255]

Cyclic voltammograms (CV) is a kind of electrochemical analysis method and is a linear-sweep voltammetry with the scan continued in the reverse direction at the end of the first scan this cycle can be repeated a number of times. Usually it is used in the field of electrochemistry. The function of CV in electrocatalytic analysis of electrodes might be in these parts (a) kinetics (b) mechanism of electrode reactions and (c) corrosion studies. [Pg.340]

Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) is a powerful tool for examining the processes occurring at the electrode surfaces. EIS is a kind of electrochemical analysis method which can be used in the characterization of batteries, fuel cells, and corrosion phenomena. [Pg.344]
