Efficiency operating

The effectiveness of the approach is demonstrated on two rqjresentative NDT techniques intapretation of data acquired with an ultrasonic rail inspection system and interpretation of eddy-current data from heat exchangers in (petro-)chemical industry. The results show that it is possible to provide a high level of automation in combination with efficient operator support for highly variable NDT measurements where up to now use of automated interpretation was only limited. [Pg.97]

When the curvature of the reaction vessel is too great for the efficient operation of the bar type magnetic stirrer, a miniature solenoid-operated reciprocating stirrer may be employed (Fig. XII, 2, 19). This stirrer may be easilj constructed from a telephone relay or electric bell. It is advisable to have a control for adjusting the stroke while running. [Pg.1108]

Screw presses have been used extensively in North America, but are not popular in Europe. The mash is added at the top of a vertical rotating screw. As the mash moves down it is compressed in the taper and juice flows out through slatted conical walls. Compression of the pomace blocks channels for juice flow and iuhibits juice extraction. Extensive use of press aids is necessary for efficient operation. [Pg.572]

The Iron Bla.stFurna.ee, The reduction of iron oxides by carbon in the iron (qv) blast furnace is the most important of all extractive processes, and the cornerstone of all industrial economies. Better understanding of the reactions taking place within the furnace has made possible a more efficient operation through better preparation of the burden, higher blast temperature, and sometimes increased pressure. Furnace capacity has doubled since the 1800s, whereas coke consumption has been reduced by about half The ratio of coke to iron produced on a per weight basis is ca 0.5 to 1. [Pg.166]

AEROPHINE 3418A promoter is widely used ia North and South America, AustraHa, Europe, and Asia for the recovery of copper, lead, and ziac sulfide minerals (see Elotatton). Advantages ia comparison to other collectors (15) are said to be improved selectivity and recoveries ia the treatment of complex ores, higher recoveries of associated precious metals, and a stable grade—recovery relationship which is particularly important to the efficient operation of automated circuits. Additionally, AEROPHINE 3418A is stable and, unlike xanthates (qv), does not form hazardous decomposition products such as carbon disulfide. It is also available blended with other collectors to enhance performance characteristics. [Pg.319]

Control Room. The control room location can be critical to the efficient operation of a faciHty. One prime concern is to locate it the maximum distance from the most ha2ardous units. These units are usually the units where LPG or other flammables, eg, hydrocarbons that are heavier than air, can be released and accumulate at grade level. Deadly explosions can occur if a pump seal on a light-ends system fails and the heavier-than-air hydrocarbons coUect and are ignited by a flammable source. Also, the sulfur recovery unit area should be kept at a healthy distance away as an upset can cause deadly fumes to accumulate. [Pg.79]

Recycling is not the total answer to the soUd waste problem. However, efficiently operated recycling programs can easily divert 35% or more of municipal soUd waste away from disposal. Curbside coUection systems offer the opportunity to coUect the greatest amount of recyclables in the most cost-efficient manner. It is imperative that communities and recyclers operate programs that are glass-friendly and which result in color-separated, contaminant-free material. [Pg.570]

The quahty of incoming raw sugar is paramount for efficient operation. Polarization is a universal quaUty criterion. Color, ash (inorganic), invert sugar, moisture, dextran content, and grain size are other criteria that may be included in raw sugar purchase contracts. [Pg.18]

The steam balance in the plant shown in Figure 2 enables all pumps and blowers to be turbine-driven by high pressure steam from the boiler. The low pressure exhaust system is used in the reboiler of the recovery system and the condensate returns to the boiler. Although there is generally some excess power capacity in the high pressure steam for driving other equipment, eg, compressors in the carbon dioxide Hquefaction plant, all the steam produced by the boiler is condensed in the recovery system. This provides a weU-balanced plant ia which few external utiUties are required and combustion conditions can be controlled to maintain efficient operation. [Pg.21]

A difference between these firing methods may also be manifested in the initial fuel cost. For efficient operation of a spreader-stoker-fired boiler, the coal must consist of a proper mixture of coarse and fine particles. Normally, double-screened coal is purchased because less expensive run-of-mine coal does not provide the optimum balance oFcoarse and fine material. [Pg.2386]

Critical Burner Dimensions - The position of the flameholder s and burner lines relative to the bottom or the stack is critical for efficient operation. For example, the multijet flare has a turndown ratio of 10 1 when the flameholder centerline is 125 mm below the bottom of the stack but only 2 1 when it is 150 mm above the bottom of the stack. [Pg.263]

This directory contains the USEPA Pesticide and Industrial Chemical Risk Analysis and Hazard Assessment system. Documentation for PIRANHA is contained in a MANUALS subdirectory enter PIRANHA C where C is a hard disk to receive the output files to run the sy stem. For efficient operation of PIRANHA, transfer the files from the CD-ROM to your hard disk, (it requires 28 MB). Data files are accessed from the CD-ROM when running PIRANHA. [Pg.371]

In the true gravity case, pumps are not used. If, however, the liquid is highly viscous, to achieve efficient operation, pumps are required to force the fluid through the pressure filters. The pump can be considered essentially as a press with a plate-and-frame filter. The plate-and-frame filter consists of a series ot frames over which the filter medium is stretched. A centrifugal basket of fine mesh is another method of particulate removal. [Pg.167]

Modem process plants grow increasingly complex with highly coupled unit processes. A result of this tendency is that tasks now often require a team rather than individual effort. Team training becomes increasingly important for the safe and efficient operation of plants. The aim of this section is to identify those PIFs which play a critical role in the collective efforts and communications of process workers. [Pg.142]
