In 1961, enough einsteinium was produced to separate a macroscopic amount of 253Es. This sample weighted about O.OlMg and was measured using a special magnetic-type balance. 253Es so produced was used to produce mendelevium (Element 101). [Pg.210]

Plate Magnets. Plate magnets (Fig. 6a) are simple devices usually mounted in the bottom of a chute or duct. These magnetized plates are manufactured in various models and are normally of the permanent magnet type. The largest units provide protection to about 115 mm of material depth, at chute angles of up to 45° from the horizontal. [Pg.422]

Filter elements may be of the 5-micron, woven mesh, micronic, porous metal, or magnetic type. The micronic and 5-micron elements have non-cleanable filter media and are disposed of when they are removed. Porous metal, woven mesh and magnetic filter elements are usually designed to be cleaned and reused. [Pg.607]

Multiple receive systems with multi-coil arrays have become widely distributed in medical MRI. The benefit is the enhancement of the signal-to-noise ratio per time or a reduction of the acquisition time. This technique is not used in NMR microscopy for objects of intermediate size in standard bore (52-mm id) and wide bore (89-mm id) magnets, which are the most widely distributed magnet types for NMR microscopy. The main reason is the restricted space in such magnets for the shim... [Pg.71]

Transducers in the device being tested convert the variable being measured into an electrical signal that subsequently is used to modulate the carrier of an RF transmitter. The signal is received, amplified, and demodulated on the ground, and recorded on magnetic type or on an oscillograph for subsequent analysis... [Pg.555]

The adopted heat capacities for CoO(cr) in the temperature range 51-298 K are those of King (J ). These data have a pronounced maximum at 287.3 K, at which point the heat capacity is greater than 17.6 cal K mol". Assayag and Bizette (16) also measured beat capacities for CoO(cr) between 180-400 K and reported a maximum at 298.7 K. Presumably this anomaly is of the magnetic type. Heat capacity data above 300 K are calculated from the high temperature (400-1800 K) enthalpy data of King and Christensen (r ). Both sets of data were anoothed by computer and joined at 298.15 K. [Pg.924]

The remedy is to select a meter no larger than necessary to handle the minimum flow rates expected, even if the pipe and meter sizes do not match. The velocity through the meter at minimum flow should have range between 2 and 5 fps and at maximum flow have a range of 8-12 Ips (1 fps = 1 ft/s = 0.3048 m/s). In some cases, this may involve the use of pipe reducers to adapt the water line to the meter size a practice which is acceptable provided that the resulting pressure loss is not excessive. Manometers (measuring pressure differential) can be used to calibrate Venturi type meters, whereas only controlled water tests can be used to accurately calibrate propeller, turbine, and magnetic type meters. [Pg.302]

Figure 1 shows a magnetic-type sector field mass spectrometer coupled with a Knudsen cell. The most important part of the instrument is the Knudsen cell. It can be heated up to temperatures above 2500 K. The temperatures are measured with an optical pyrometer or a thermocouple. There would be thermodynamic equilibrium in the Knudsen cell if it were closed. However, real Knudsen cells have an effusion orifice (typical diameter 0.1 to 1 mm) through which a small fraction of the molecules effuse without practically disturbing the equilibrium in the cell. A molecular beam representing the equilibrium vapor in... [Pg.100]

Similar representation can be constructed for the magnetic-type operator polarization matrix in (142) as well. [Pg.465]
