Efficiency of current

During the Clinton administration, the PNGV (Partnership for a New Generation of Vehicles) program was started at the end of 1993. The long term goal was an environmentally friendly car with up to triple the fuel efficiency of current mid-size cars without sacrificing affordability, performance or safety. [Pg.162]

During recent decades, research efforts have focused on the development of DSSCs. Their advantages include use of cheap materials, ease of device fabrication, high stability, and reasonably high efficiencies of currently around 11-13 % [9,10,13-... [Pg.475]

This does not mean that research should not be conducted in the synthesis of liquid fuels. This type of research should be conducted on a rational basis rather than, as in the early 1920 s and late 1940 s, on a basis of fear that petroleum supplies are running out. The efficiency of current synthesis operations is low—in the range of 40 to 60%. These efficiencies can be improved and, while this is being accomplished, it is reasonable to predict that petroleum prospecting and production will become more costly. Consequently there is a logical meeting point in the future, indistinct at the moment, where synthesis operations may logically be utilized. When this situation develops, natural gas supplies will probably also be limited and coal, oil shale, and tar sands will constitute the basic raw materials. [Pg.221]

The efficiency of currently used techniques for the removal of particulates from gases drops off sharply if the particle size becomes smaller than 1 nm (Figure 362). On the other hand, the human pulmonary system is most efficient in absorbing and retaining particles in the micrometer and submicrometer range. These particles are then the primary cause of respiratory ailments. " While such suspended particles in emissions from, for example, stacks of power plants are invisible, measurements have revealed that approximately 50 o of the particulates suspended in the air of urban regions are smaller than 1 fim. [Pg.401]

When the energy efficiencies of the electric motors and transmission in the fuel cell automobile are taken into account the total system efficiency will be about 50% to 70%. The fuel cell automobile will have about four times the energy efficiency of current automobiles and possibly twice that of the new generation of hybrid automobiles. These comparisons are shown in Table 7.2... [Pg.144]

HOBE s four levels are linked with one another by feedback loops. Process control delivers information on the efficiency of current processes. This is where continuous adaptation and improve-... [Pg.299]

Channel dimensions and cross sectimis also are influencing the pressure drop along the flow field. Typical channel and rib dimensions in laboratory cells are of the order of 1 mm in depth and width. However in space constrained high power applications such as vehicle propulsimi channel depth down to 0.3 mm are not uncommon. Besides the channel depth, the ratio of channel width and width of the rib in conjunction with the thickness of the GDL plays an important role in effectively supplying reactants to the catalyst layer. The use of thin gas diffusion layers made from thin, rather soft roll goods helps to sustain high current densities. On the other hand these materials are requiring mechanical support from the ribs of the flow fleld at distances ideally smaller than 1 nun. Furthermore, the total surface area of the ribs in contact with the gas diffusion layer influences the efficiency of current collection and heat transfer. [Pg.271]

This term is thus completely classical and describes the Coulomb repulsion between an electron in spin-orbital and the total electron density, p. We note that p is given in terms of the orbitals. The HF equation is thus not linear but has to be solved self-consistently— that is, until the input density used to construct J equals the output density. The efficiency of current SCF programs lies in their ability to achieve fast convergence in this iterative process, and many ingenious convergence procedures have been derived for this purpose. [Pg.523]

Daggett ef al., from Boeing, presented their concept of a fuel cell APU for a commercial aircraft [625], The main driver for this development was the reduction of N emissions, noise and the low thermal efficiency of current APU systems, which... [Pg.346]
