There are a number of specific texts devoted to the various aspects of mass spectrometry [2-7]. In this chapter, a brief overview of the technique will be provided, with particular attention being paid to those aspects necessary for the application of LC-MS. In addition, a number of manufacturers provide educational material on their websites (for further details, see the Bibliography section at the end of this text). 

The websites of manufacturers of LC-MS equipment are often a valuable source of applications data and educational material, as well as details of their own products ... 

We prepared our science advisors with training on how to interact effectively with teachers and students, and we developed an Education Resource Center where they could borrow both activity plans and equipment to help their teachers do interesting hands-on science activities in their classes. This resource center was stocked both with commercial educational materials, as well as selected surplus equipment. Computers turned out to be particularly popular items—we now loan out on an annual basis about 200 computers that are outmoded for our technical purposes, but that the schools are delighted to have. At the request of teachers, our science advisors have ended up doing many of the same things as the School Partnership participants. About 50% of them do at least some activities directly with students. Others provide help in understanding science content, coordinate access to the resource center, assist with science fairs, and provide support for teachers in a variety of other ways. 

Refer patients to a local PD support group where they can obtain educational materials as well as empathy and social support from fellow PD patients. Support groups that include patients with advanced disease may upset patients with early disease therefore, the advantages and disadvantages of attending should be explained to the patient. 

Packaging that is developed according to patient education principals can serve as a strong reminder or motivational aid to the patient. The complete package, a new concept recently proposed, is the most advanced type of compliance packaging. The proponents of this concept recommend that pharmaceutical companies expand their definition of a product beyond that of the medication. The complete package consists of the medication plus the complete set of compliance packaging and the educational materials necessary to help the patient obtain the desired therapeutic outcome. 

The dissemination of well-designed educational material constitutes a complement to other strategies, especially as a basis for training measures (face-to-face interviews or feedback systems), its relatively low added cost being a factor to take into consideration. However, disseminating this type of material alone hardly has any effect on prescriber behaviour.

SPI s Polyurethane Division has an active Product Stewardship Issues Group, which has made available a variety of education materials and workshops. Emphasis has been placed on the educational materials, group s stewardship philosophy, focusing on safety and health issues and the literature available. Some examples of the literature available are listed. 

Finally, at launch and beyond, plans need to be in place for journal advertising and detailing of the product to doctors by sales representatives. As noted above, the customer base of pharmaceuticals is complex and the needs of individual customers differ. For GPs and specialists, information about the product will be via advertising, representative detailing and mailings. For NHS staff such as those working in Health Authorities or within PCOs, the information will need to be more focused on cost effectiveness and service provision. For practice nurses, the emphasis will be on educational materials and practical aspects of the product s use. Disease awareness programmes for patients will be developed where appropriate. 

While Enghsh is the only MHRA-approved language, other language versions may be used upon certification of identical content. S)unbols, pictograms and educational material are also discussed. The MHRA guidance and appendices are essential reading for those required to write PILs, generally members of the medical department. 

Other material issued by companies which relates to medicines but which is not intended as promotional material for those medicines per se, for example, corporate advertising, press releases, market research material, financial information to inform shareholders, the stock exchange and the like, and educational material for patients etc, should be examined to ensure that it does not contravene the Code or the relevant statutory requirements. 

We hope that you will find this edition to be interesting and valuable. We are actively planning the sixth volume and anticipate that it will feature a return to more applications and restore one or more previously popular sections, including Chemical Education, Materials, and/or Emerging Technologies. The project had funding from the Camille and Henry Dreyfus Foundation Special Grant Program in the Chemical Sciences, the ACS/EPA Green Chemistry Educational Materials Development Project, and the University of Scranton. 

According to Parent, In 2001 there were no educational materials on green chemistry available to educators beyond technical reference books. By 2005 GCI in partnership with ACS Education had produced six green chemistry publications for chemical educators. Over 1,000 copies per year are distributed to customers. GCI receives requests for green chemistry educational materials from faculty around the world. Parent displayed a list of available education materials ... 

A second activity is a Web site called Bookbuild that is a partnership between the three universities and Pearson/ Prentice Hall. Bookbuild will be a global hub for faculty to submit and share lecture materials, notes, slides, handouts, and other engineering educational materials. All materials submitted to this Web site will be subject to peer review. 

Communication through advertising, teaching, and educational materials are also seen as useful to get the message out and market green chemistry. Julie A. Haack is a senior instructor and assistant department head for chemistry at the University of Oregon, where her work has focused on the incorporation of green chemistry principles into the introductory chemistry curriculum for both science and nonscience majors. She is a leader in facilitating the identification, development, and dissemination of green chemistry educational materials throughout the chemistry curriculum.
