Education standards

A not-for-profit corporation organized to improve the practice and educational standards of the profession of industrial hygiene. 

As a result of science education research, a new era of reform in science education has started with the new centuiy. New standards have been fixed (National Research Council, 1996, 2000). The National Science Education Standards (National Research Council, 1996) and also the 2061 project of ihe American Association for the Advancement of Science (1989,1990) assume that inquiry in general and inquiry in the context of practical work in science education is central to the achievement of scientific literacy (Hofstein Mamlok-Naaman, 2007).

Setting educational standards for health professionals and developing and enforcing codes of conduct this requires the cooperation of the professional societies and universities... 

Scientific inquiry demands a number of skills. The National Committee on Science Education Standards and Assessment and the National Research Council, in addition to other organizations such as the National Science Teachers Association, have stressed the training and development of these skills. Science students must learn how to raise important questions, design the tools or experiments necessary to answer these questions, apply models in explaining the results and revise the model as needed, be alert to alternative explanations, and construct and analyze arguments for and against competing models.

Active Astronomy Classroom Activities for Learning About Infrared Light consists of five modules where students of middle school to high school levels participate in hands-on experiments to learn about the properties and uses of IR radiation. National Science Education Standards and in the content of Chemical Education Towards Research-Based Practice. Two major chemistry textbooks were produced in the earlier wave of reforms ChemStudy and the Chemical Bond Approach (CBA). Both were more inquiry-based than most of the textbooks in use today. An examination of the CBA laboratory manual shows that experiments at the beginning of the textbook were quite structured but became much less so later in the book. The final experiment in any sequence is a blank page on which students create the entire investigation.

Current K-12 curriculum is packed with traditional material, some of it necessary and some not. Turf issues inhibit serious revisiting of what, and to what extent, students need to learn. The turf issues extend beyond the local level. When learning standards development committees are formed at the state level, each member advocates for more standards in their specialty area. Engineering is the newcomer and threatens the each member s piece of the pie. Similar turf issues occur when developing educational standards at the national level.
