Durability improving

Typically, the product contains 30 to 50% by weight of organopolysiloxane and 50 to 70% of polyoxyalkylene. As the silicone level increases, the durability improves and water solubility decreases and vice-versa. Antifoams using this chemistry employ 1,000 to 5,000 MW silicones and are hydrophobic. [Pg.552]

Of 1553 men with male-pattern baldness who took finasteride 1 mg/day, all of whom had initially taken part in one of two 1-year placebo-controlled studies, 1215 continued into further controlled studies over another 4 years (31). There was durable improvement in scalp hair over 5 years and no new safety concerns were identified. [Pg.151]

Despite improvements in composite durability with certain eement replaeements, little is known as to the mechanism of improved durability. That is, does the eement pore solution play a significant role, or does the permeability of the eomposite Or are durability improvements based on a combination of the two Also, how is eement hydration altered by lowering the pore solution pH These questions must be answered before establishing any criteria or recommendations for improving pulp fiber-eement eomposite durability. [Pg.217]

Several factors are thought to be involved in the mechanism of durability improvement. The objective of this study was to examine compounds which are capable of interacting chemically with the steel surface. In addition, reaction with the epoxide resin is also desirable. The polyfunctional mercaptoester compounds meet both of these requirements in that the mercaptoester moiety provides a means of chelating iron cations and in addition is very reactive towards the epoxide group in the presence of an amine. The polyfunctional nature of this compound enables it to attach to the steel surface at more than one site and provides a group which can chemically attach to the resin. The dramatic improvement in bond durability supports such a hypothesis. [Pg.126]

As mentioned in Introduction, recently polymer-impregnated mortar and concrete have hardly been used as construction materials except for a few applications. At present, their precast products such as permanent forms are manufactured to order at Materras Oume Co., Ltd. in Japan, which is their only manufacturer in the world. However, a recent great interest has been oriented toward the durability improvement of reinforced concrete structures by the concrete surface impregnation techniques using alkyl alkoxy silane-based barrier (or surface) penetrants, similar to the field polymer impregnation techniques [85]... [Pg.7]

In an independent application, graphene was utilized as a top electrode for solid-state MJs consisting of alkanethiol SAMs on Au (Figure 10.8a- b) [ 106]. Good electronic coupling of graphene with molecules resulted in better contact resistance and good durability, improved thermal and operational stabilities and lifetime. [Pg.352]

Full impregnation is usually achieved by pressure. The principal reason for full impregnation is to improve the strength and other mechanical properties of concrete. Durability improvement accompanies this. [Pg.136]

In this chapter, the current status and several major aspects of PEFC component modeling are described and discussed. Mathematical and computational modeling (both analytical and numerical) play important roles in the technology development and optimal operation of PEFCs from a fundamental understanding of underlying phenomena to engineering design and optimization that can lead to cost reductions and durability improvements. At present, the macroscopic descriptions of phenomena in the individual fuel-cell components have been formulated and... [Pg.871]

As cost reduction and durability improvement will not automatically go hand in hand, it is important to define priorities. For the acceptance of a new technology, robustness and performance are cmcial, more than costs. With many alternative drive trains and energy carriers foreseen to be introduced in the coming decade, failures on robustness and performance will not be tolerated by consumers. If market stimulation packages by govermnents to stimulate the sales of clean vehicles are put in place, the last part of the cost reduction can be postponed to next generation vehicles, when the technology already has been adopted. In any case, the options for further cost reduction should be present. [Pg.294]

In Part I, degradation phenomena of stack components, catalysts, membranes, gas-diffusion layers, membrane-electrode assemblies, bipolar plates, and sealings are discussed on the basis of their materials chemistry. Accelerating methods and recent progress in durability improvement are also reviewed by prominent authors in the field. [Pg.275]

Abstract In recent years, the importance of fuel cell vehicles has been increasing in the North American, European, and Japanese markets amid desires to reduce COj emissions and resolve energy problems. Therefore, improving stack durability has become an increasingly important issue. However, many membrane electrode assembly degradation phenomena occur in the stack under various vehicle operating conditions. This chapter presents an analysis of membrane electrode assembly degradation phenomena and the results obtained with several durability improvement measures. [Pg.437]

In a study of the effect of non-Portland cement matrices on the durability of E and AR glass fibres [93] it was shown that in the case of E glass a markedly improved performance was obtained when the alkalinity of the matrix was sufficiently low to delay or prevent alkali attack and the spaces between the filaments were not filled with hydration products, or if filled with hydration products they tended to be very porous and friable. I n the case of AR glass fibres the condition for marked durability improvement was associated mainly with the latter condition, either (i) prevention of filling of the spaces between the filaments, or (ii) deposition of hydration products which are porous and friable. Based on the studies reviewed... [Pg.319]
