In another series of trials, geotextiles were exposed in two natural weathering sites one in southern France and the other in Berlin [13]. At the same time they were exposed to three methods of accelerated testing, with either xenon arcs or fluorescent tubes.

The early stages of most biodiesel reactions proceed slowly, but the slow reaction is readily overcome when the reaction is induced to form a single phase. Boocock (87) described methods of accelerating methyl ester synthesis by adding ether cosolvents. In one example, 100 g of soy oil was reacted with 28 mL of methanol in the presence of 35 mL of tetrahydrofuran and 1 g of sodium hydroxide. The reaction proceeded rapidly and separated in 20 min. After the reaction was complete, the solvents were flashed off the methyl ester phase and a small amount of glycerol separated. The ester yield was 90.1%. 

The free radical process of autoxidation consists of a chain sequence involving three distinct types of reactions initiation, propagation, and termination. The initiation produces a free radical to begin the chain reaction. Use of a radical chain initiator is a valid method of accelerating autoxidation. ...

The protective properties of inhibiting films are estimated periodically. With this aim, standard as well as purpose-developed methods of accelerated test can be used (electrochemical, microbiological, model). These tests may be time consuming and are rather laborious. 

A rapid copolymerization of diallyl adipate with an unsaturated polyester using a small quantity of lauryl mercaptan and stannous chloride along with dibenzoyl peroxide has been described. This patented procedure is of particular interest in the manufacture of flexible coatings or textiles. Procedure 9-2 may be investigated as a general method of accelerating conventional peroxide-initiated polymerizations provided the patent does not impose restrictions on such work.

Averaged experimental creep compliance data are represented by dots in Figure 12.12 as a function of log time. The tests show that even after 14 months the creep continued and deformations kept increasing. After tests of 10000 h the compliance of the materials examined exceeds the instantaneous elastic compliance by a factor varying from 3.8 (for pure PP) to 3.2 (for the 80% PP + 20% PLC blend). Historically, various investigators in Europe have used hydrochloric acid-px>tassium dichromate solutions for testing the exfoliation susceptibility of all types of aluminum alloys. An example is the Russian Stanchtid GOST 9.904-82, Aluminium Alloys Methods of Accelerated Exfohation Corrosion Testing [22]. It should be noted, however, that hexavalent chromium (Cr ) solutions are considered undesirable for health and environmental considerations and have been prohibited in some countries.
