D genes

Accelrys provides data management and sequence analysis tools through the DS SeqStore and GCG Wisconsin Package products, running on UNIX systems. DS Gene provides PC access for visualization and analysis capabilities within the Discovery Studio product family. [Pg.53]

DS Gene is a stand-alone sequence analysis package that operates on Windows. [Pg.54]

All of the clones isolated so far hybridize with transcripts which appear in germlings at the time when the vesicles form, although the class VI clone also hybridizes with a transcript which appears during development of the appressorium. Thus, the ds-genes appear to have a role in construction of the infection structures. A more precise timing of expression will have to await additional studies. [Pg.91]

The Ds gene could produce ruptures and mutations in any part of the chromosome where it lay and could move from one locus to another. The second element Ac was essential for manifestation of Ds activity, and the time when the results of this activity become manifest varied with the number of Ac elements present. The Ac element could also change its position and cause ruptures and mutations, and was similar to the Ds in this respect. They differed, however, in that Ds activity could be exhibited only in the presence of a C, whereas Ac could act by itself. [Pg.329]

The three class I ADH promoters are very similar. Prominent among the ds-act-ing elements that contribute to promoter function are the TATA box, a pair of C/ EBP sites (that can also be bound by DBP) flanking the TATA box, an E-box sequence (CACGTG) just upstream at which USF can bind, and a G3T sequence (that binds Spl) one helical turn further upstream from the E-box [28, 29]. Further upstream are CTF/NF-1 and HNF-1 sites, and some elements that are specific to only some of these genes [24]. Differences among the class I genes in these and other sites affect the tissue distribution and amount of expression. Sequence differences among individuals could well affect the level and site(s) of expression, and thereby the effects of alcohol. [Pg.426]

Ligand-bound corticosteroid receptors have been shown to interact to form heterodimers with other transcription factors, such as the jun protein. Such interactions are responsible for transactivation of the ds-regulatory sites known as AP-1 sites and for the glucocorticoid-mediated suppression of transcription, such as that seen in the pro-opiomelanocortin gene. A number of such specific protein interactions have been reported these interactions and their locations relative to other transcription factors transform a ubiquitous steroid hormone signal into a tissue-specific, graded cellular response. [Pg.465]

Baculovirus expression is the most frequently used method for expression in insect cells and employs Autographa californica nuclear polyhedrosis virus (AcNPV), a double stranded (ds) DNA virus that infects arthropods. The baculovirus expression system utilizes features of the viral life cycle to introduce recombinant DNA coding the gene of interest into insect cells (Miller, 1988 O Reilly et al, 1992). [Pg.10]
