Draft balancing

In most instances, the FBC is of the forced-air type with a single fluidizing blower at the front end. A total system including the air pollution control system is shown in Fig. 4. If the downstream heat recovery or air pollution control devices are unable to withstand pressure, an induced draft fan may be added to provide a balanced draft. Balanced draft systems are also utilized to provide a negative pressure in the FBC so that difficult-to-move materials can be fed via gravity through a chute-and-airlock arrangement. [Pg.155]

Where there is a temperature difference between the object to be weighed and the surrounding air, air currents will be induced close to the object s surface (12). These can be significant if extreme accuracy is required. Objects should be allowed to reach thermal equiHbrium in the laboratory before weighing. Just as important, the balance should be designed to minimize the temperature rise inside the weighing chamber. The steam generator is a balanced draft, controlled circulation, multichamber unit which incorporates NO control and final burnout of the fuel-rich MHD combustion gases. The MHD generator exhaust is cooled in a primary radiant chamber from about 2310 to 1860 K in two seconds, and secondary air for afterburning and final oxidation of the gas is introduced in the secondary chamber where seed also condenses. Subsequent to afterburning and after the gas has been cooled down sufftciendy to soHdify condensed seed in the gas, the gas passes through the remaining convective sections of the heat recovery system. [Pg.425]

Plant layout and noise suppression material are two general noise abatement methods. Plant layout does not affect noise levels at any given point however, noise can be abated by screening off a section of the plant. An example of this is to orient cooling towers with their closed faces toward the critical location. This method must also consider wind direction to balance air draft. The economics of forced and induced draft cooling tower operation require a study of fan and water pump horsepower and usually dictate a fan static pressure requirement not to exceed 0.75-1.0 in. of water. For atmospheric and natural draft towers the economics of pumping water are still very important. This means that the ground area must be so selected as to keep the height dovm while not dropping the unit rates so low that performance becomes poor.
