Dodecyltrimethylammonium salts

Similar experiments were carried out for various couples of counterions of aqueous solutions of dodecylammonium and dodecyltrimethylammonium salts. The average values of the relative adsorbability of various anions against chloride ions are summarized in Table IV. [Pg.210]

Large-pore mesoporous materials with enhanced textural characteristics (surface area, pore size distribution and pore volume) were obtained from a pH-adjusted synthesis with a surfactant mixture of hexadecyl- and dodecyltrimethylammonium salts in combination with mesitylene-swelling. This material was grafted with phenyl-alkoxysilanes and subsequently sulphonated. Nitrogen adsorption and multinuclear MAS NMR were performed to monitor the different synthesis steps. [Pg.318]

Some membrane proteins are readily extractable by mild salt solutions. Others, more tenaciously enmeshed, must be solubilized prior to extraction and separation. This requires treatment with detergents such as the anionic sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) or the quaternary cationic dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB). [Pg.213]

In this approach, developed by Tanaka et al. (90, 91), n-Bu4N+ salts of the clusters [Fe4S4(SQH4-p-R)4] with strongly hydrophobic substituents (e.g., R = n-CgHn) in Me SO or DMF solutions were added to buffered aqueous solutions containing micellar reagents such as Triton X-100 or dodecyltrimethylammonium chloride. The cluster resides in a partially aqueous environment in the hydrophobic interior of the micelle. Potentials are shifted 400 mV in the positive direction when compared to the values... [Pg.12]

When brought in contact with aqueous solutions of organic salts (dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide [3] or dodecylammonium chloride [19]) of increasing concentrations, the surface electric charge of silica may decrease to zero and even become positive. [Pg.233]

In the same way l-decyl-3-methyHmidazolium chloride (2, [DMIM] [Cl]) and a patented plant growth regulator 4 are depicted side by side. A third example showing the structural similarity of some ILs to already existing chemicals are the quaternary alkylammonium compounds (quats) (3 versus 6). Some crystalline quats like dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide are commonly being used for disinfection or as preservatives, while tetrabutylammonium salts are easily accessible ILs. [Pg.591]

Kunieda s group reported numerous viscoelastic worm-like micellar systems in the salt-free condition when a lipophilic nonionic surfactant such as short hydrophilic chain poly(oxyethylene) alkyl ether, C EOni, or N-hydroxyethyl-N-methylaUcanolamide, NMEA-n, was added to the dilute micellar solution of hydrophilic cationic (dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide, DTAB and hexade-cyltrimethylammonium bromide, CTAB) [12-14], anionic (sodium dodecyl sulfate, SDS [15, 16], sodium dodecyl trioxyethylene sulfate, SDES [17], and Gemini-type [18]) or nonionic (sucrose alkanoates, C SE [9, 19], polyoxyethylene cholesteryl ethers, ChEO [10, 20], polyoxyethylene phytosterol, PhyEO [11, 21] and polyoxyethylene sorbitan monooleate, Tween-80 [22]) surfactants. The mechanism of formation of these worm-Hke stmctures and the resulting rheological behavior of micellar solutions is discussed in this section based in some actual published and unpublished results, but conclusions can qualitatively be extended to aU the systems studied by Kunieda s group. [Pg.240]

Bimetallic phase-transfer-catalysis is a process whereby a reaction that occurs using two different metal complexes, does not proceed in the absence of either metal species, or proceeds only at reduced rate. An apparent system of this class has been reported, in which Co2(CO)g and [RhCl(l,5-hexadiene)]2 mutually increased their reactivity when used as catalysts for the conversion of nitrobenzene to aniline in a biphasic system (benzene, aqueous NaOH, dodecyltrimethylammonium chloride) in a carbon monoxide atmosphere [73]. However, another member of the same research group later showed [74] that the apparent bimetallic promotion was due to the fact that the alkylammonium salt used as a phase-transfer agent actually inhibited the activity of the active rhodium complex (apparently a cluster, which is active in the absence of both the alkylammonium salt and the cobalt compound) by rendering it insoluble. The added Co2(CO)g reacts with the alkylammonium salt to generate... [Pg.154]

Without addition of salt, Aerosol OT forms a much-studied region of oil-rich microemulsions (41). However, the even more hydrophilic single-tailed surfactants such as sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB) are so far from the optimal hydrophilic-lipophilic balance that addition of salt alone is not enough for the formation... [Pg.65]

The discontinuous cubic phase is, without exception (so far as is known), the solubility boundary that exists just above the Krafft eutectic in zwitterionic surfactants. This phase is also the saturating phase at the solubility boundary in many quaternary ammonium salts (such as dodecyltrimethylammonium chloride). It is also prominent in polyfunctional quaternary ammonium surfactants such as dodecyl-tris(2-hydroxyethyl)ammonium chloride [23]. It is interesting that the cubic liquid-crystal solubility boundary is not often found when lipophilic proximate substituent groups do not exist on or near the primary hydrophilic group, as in alkylammonium chlorides (RNH3, Cl ). In contrast, structurally... [Pg.119]

The mesogen structures may be formed not only by covalent bonds, but also by non-covalent interactions, such as hydrogen bonds, ionic interactions, and metal coordination [71]. A recent example [72] of this concept comprised the self-assembly of complex salts into stable hierarchical aggregates with a dense core and a diffuse shell. These materials were made from diblock copolymers poly(acrylic acid)-block-poly(acrylamide) and the cationic surfactant dodecyltrimethylammonium. Due to non-covalent interactions the surfactant/polymer aggregates exhibited a liquid crystalline structure of cubic symmetry. [Pg.45]
