Polyoxyethylene Sorbitan Monooleate

Adsorption of t-PA to process equipment surfaces consisting of either stainless steel or glass was minimized by adding the detergent polyoxyethylene sorbitan monooleate (Tween 80) to the semm-free culture conditioned media at 0.01% (vol/vol). The equipment was also rinsed, before use, with phosphate buffered saline (PBS) containing 0.01% Tween 80. Hydrophilic, plastic equipment was used whenever possible. AH buffers were sterile filtered. Sterile filtration of Hquids and gases is usually carried out using 0.2 or 0.45 p.m filters. [Pg.46]

In the first example, procaine penicillin, an aqueous vehicle containing the soluble components (such as lecithin, sodium citrate, povidone, and polyoxyethylene sorbitan monooleate) is filtered through a 0.22 pm membrane filter, heat sterilized, and transferred into a presterilized mixing-filling tank. The sterile antibiotic powder, which has previously been produced by freeze-drying, sterile crystallization, or spray-drying, is aseptically added to the sterile solution while mixing. After all tests have been completed on the bulk formulation, it is aseptically filled. [Pg.397]

Peters and Luthy (1993, 1994) performed a detailed analysis of the equilibrium behavior of solvent coal tar water mixtures in work that was complementary to column studies performed by Roy, et. al. (1995). Peters and Luthy successfully modeled ternary phase diagrams of coal tar/n-butylamine/water systems. In addition, Peters and Luthy identified n-butylamine as the leading solvent for coal tar extraction. Pennell and Abriola (1993) report the solubilization of residual dodecane in Ottawa sand using a nonionic surfactant, polyoxyethylene sorbitan monooleate, which achieved a 5 order of magnitude increase over the aqueous solubility, but is still 7 times less than the equilibrium batch solubility with the same surfactant system. [Pg.248]

The polysorbates used most regarding efflux pump inhibition are polyoxyethylene sorbitan monolaurates (Tween 20), polyoxyethylene sorbitan monopalmi-tates (Tween 40) and polyoxyethylene sorbitan monooleates (Tween 80). Various studies demonstrate the ability of polysorbates to inhibit efflux pumps. In transport experiments across intestinal mucosa, the efflux ratio (basolateral to apical drug transport/apical to basolateral drug transport) of rhodamine 123 was reduced in the presence of Tween 80 (Shono et al. 2004). In another study, Zhang et al. demonstrated enhanced absorption of the P-glycoprotein substrate digoxin in rats in the presence of Tween 80 (Zhang et al. 2003). [Pg.129]

The selection of the mixture of surfactants should be made after the careful consideration of the interfacial film, as described in Section 4.2.3. In most cases, the most stable emulsions are made from surfactants that contain the same number of hydrocarbon chains (e.g., sorbitan monooleate and polyoxyethylene sorbitan monooleate). The optimum HLB value of the surfactants in the emulsion predicts the smallest mean droplet size that produces a stable emulsion. [Pg.232]

Polysorbate 80 Solution Dissolve 25 g of polysorbate 80 (polyoxyethylene sorbitan monooleate) in ethyl alcohol, and dilute with ethyl alcohol to make 250 mL. [Pg.509]

Data on the effects of surfactants on the hydrolysis of aryl sulfate esters have become available only recently. A non-ionic heterodisperse polyoxyethylene sorbitan monooleate surfactant, Polysorbate 80, was found to increase the observed rate constant for the acid-catalyzed hydrolysis of potassium 2,4-dichloronaphthyl sulfate by a factor of 16-3 at a surfactant concentration of 8 g/1, but an additional 5-fold increase... [Pg.329]

Tween 80 (also known as At-Plus 109 and Polysorbate 80) is a polyoxyethylene sorbitan monooleate and was obtained from Atlas Chemical Industries, Inc. This nonionic surfactant has an HLB (hydrophile-lipophile balance) of 15.0 and is used as an emulsifier, solubilizer, and dispersant. It was used without further purification at the 0.1% (w/v) level in partitioning and greenhouse herbicidal evaluations as described below. [Pg.195]

Buffers can also be provided in parenteral formulations to ensure the required pH needed for solubility and/or stability considerations. Other excipients included in parenteral products are preservatives (e.g., benzyl alcohol, p-hydroxybenzoate esters, and phenol), antioxidants (e.g., ascorbic acid, sodium bisulfite, sodium metabisulfite, cysteine, and butyl hydroxy anisole), surfactants (e.g., polyoxyethylene sorbitan monooleate), and emulsifying agents (e.g., polysorbates). An inert gas (such as nitrogen) can also be used to enhance drug stability. Stability and solubility can also be enhanced by the addition of complexation and chelating agents such as the ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid salts. For a more detailed list of approved excipients in parenteral products, the reader should consult the monographs within the USP. [Pg.1006]

Phenanthrene biomineralization, solubilization, and surface-tension data for the polyoxyethylene sorbitan monooleate surfactant, Tween 80, are shown in Figures 8, 9, and 10, respectively. Tween 80 completely inhibits phenan-... [Pg.352]

Figure 10. Surface-tension data for the polyoxyethylene sorbitan monooleate surfactant indicate that the surfactant dose required to attain aqueous-phase CMC in the presence of soil is about 0.2% (v/v). The stereospeeifie Claisen transformation and the enantio-selective deearboxylation of ethylmalonic acid were found in the presence of cholesterylbenzoate and the formation of (S)-(-)-[Cr(ox)3] and (-)-helicene in photoreactions were reported on the (-)-rotating liquid-crystalline Tween-80, which is a polyoxyethylene-sorbitane-monooleate (n = 20)... [Pg.66]
