A link between 5-HT release and increased waking is supported by evidence from in vivo microdialysis of cats and rats. This has confirmed that the extracellular concentration of 5-HT in all brain regions studied to date is lower during both SWS and REM sleep than in the awake state (see Portas, Bjorvatn and Ursin 2000). Interestingly, if behaviour is maintained at a constant level, the activity of 5-HT neurons does not show circadian variation although 5-HT turnover in the brain areas to which they project... [Pg.491]

We report, here, results for three till samples from a large regional study (McClenaghan etal. 2009) 1) 05-MPB-08, from the south shoulder of the Thompson Mine South pit, contains abundant pentlandite and chalcopyrite 2) 06-MPB-58, from a location 600 m west and down-ice (W) of the main ore zone at the Pipe Mine, contains sperrylite 3) 06-MPB-61, from the west shoulder of the Pipe Mine open pit, 200 m W (down-ice) of the ore zone, contains sperrylite. [Pg.9]

Many chromophores are suitable for use in the exciton chirality method. One of the features required for such a chromophore is its planarity or near-planarity. Nonplanar (inherently dissymmetric) chromophores would contribute to the CD spectra by other mechanisms. The other limiting factor is the position of the transition in the spectral region studied. For example, the 1B transition in the alkyl-substituted benzene chromophore appears near the short-wavelength recording limit around 200 nm, making its use in the exciton chirality method less attractive. Furthermore, the direction of polarization of the lB transition in alkyl-substituted benzene derivatives is not readily determined. In such cases calculation of the rotatory strength is more reliable than qualitative analysis. [Pg.515]

We have recently completed a study of the isomerization, racemization, and chloride exchange rates of ds-[Co en2 C1J+ in methanol in the presence of only small quantities of chloride. We found that the rate depended upon chloride concentration when it was low and became independent of chloride concentration in the higher region studied by Brown et al. The rate constants are plotted in Figure 1 as function of chloride ion concentration (8). These observations are very similar to those of Basolo et al. for the substitution by azide and can be explained in the same way, i.e., by invoking ion association. The kinetic curves can be reproduced by an ion association constant, K, for the equilibrium,... [Pg.8]

As discussed in last year s World Drug Report, it is impossible to accurately estimate the location and total number of hectares under cannabis, because it is grown in at least 172 countries, often in small plots by the users themselves. The one country where reliable estimates are available is Morocco, the source of about 70 per cent of the hashish consumed in Europe. UNODC and the Government of Morocco have been monitoring large-scale hashish production since 2003. Based on these surveys, cannabis cultivation in Morocco has declined in recent years, from a peak of 134,000 hectares in 2003 to just 76,400 hectares in 2005. Outside Morocco, there have been few national or regional studies of the extent of cannabis cultivation. [Pg.7]

Diazinon concentrations in the atmosphere were monitored in several national studies during the 1970s and 1980s and more recently in several regional studies. Diazinon has been measured in outdoor air samples in both rural and urban environments, near production facilities, and in indoor air (associated with its use for pest control in domestic and commercial buildings). [Pg.145]
