The LCA compared the environmental burdens and costs associated with each plastic part. The plastics are removed from the car for the recycling scenario versus being shredded into plastic fluff and sent to the waste-to-energy or landfill scenarios. The costs for dismantling were accounted for in the mechanical recycling option. 

Scrap materials often can be put to good use. When using scrap, however, it is best to weld with a low-hydrogen E7016-18 type of electrode, since the analysis of the steel is unlikely to be known, and some high-carbon steels may be encountered. Low-hydrogen electrodes minimize cracking tendencies. Structural scrap frequently comes from dismantled structures such as elevated railroads, which used rivet-quality steel that takes little or no account of the carbon content. 

Medium and high activity waste is stored at the Cadarache Center. High activity waste consists mainly of parts from the nickel and steel reflector assemblies or from control-rod mechanisms and irradiation devices. These account for the major part of the total radioactivity (4800 TBq) which has been removed from the reactor. The liquid effluent produced by washing and decontaminating operations was transferred to the Liquid Waste Treatment Facility at Cadarache where it has been neutralized, concentrated by evaporation and encapsulated in bitumen or cement. Furthermore, on completion of the partial dismantling work, about 300 tons of material (steel and lead in particular) will been returned to service. Much of this will be turned into biological radiation shielding. 

Tower scaffolding should be subject to planned maintenance. Only authorised personnel should erect, modify or dismantle scaffolding. Towers should not be specified for use in the vicinity of overhead power lines. Specification for use of tower scaffolds must take into account the site ground conditions expected, height restrictions and obstructions. Work must be tendered for taking into account the relevant Standards.
