To protect steel piping and wire we can powder coat it with a layer of nylon 11. The powder coating process consists of immersing metal heated to above the melting point of nylon II (approximately 190 °C) in a fluidized bed of the polymer powder. When the polymer powder comes into contact with the heated metal, it melts and fuses to form a continuous coating. Powder coated products include hospital bed frames, shopping trolleys, and dishwasher racks. [Pg.369]

For plastisol/organosol technology, high-molecular-weight PVC powder is slurried in liquid plasticizer, and poured, dip- or spread-coated onto metal, fabric, or paper to produce dishwasher racks, upholstery, and wallpaper, respectively. [Pg.645]

Typical products dishwasher racks, electrical component insulation coatings, fencing, lobster and crab traps, shelving ... [Pg.11]

The order of addition was as given in the table, meaning that the first nitrile rubber was dissolved in the aliphatic solvent, followed by the addition of plasticizer, before PVC and its thermal stabilizer were added. The plastisol formulation is suitable for production of gloves, shoes, boots, tool handles and wire goods, such as dishwasher racks, dishdrainer baskets, and napkin holders. [Pg.126]

The fluidized bed is filled with cold granules of a coating material (e.g., polymer), and loads to be coated are heated in a separate oven to a temperature above the melting point of the granules. The hot loads (e.g., dishwasher racks) are then dipped (by a conveyor) into the open-topped fluidized bed for coating. [Pg.16]

Fluidized Bed-Coated Dishwasher Racks As these compounds may contain up to 25 phr of filler and pigment, and 50-60 phr of phthalate plasticizer (chosen for low odor and extractability), a resin of 0.85-0.95 IV is desirable. Nontoxic calcium/ zinc stabilizers are used, with 4-5 phr of epoxidized soybean oil (ESO) and 2-4 phr of a dispersion resin. [Pg.497]

The second test, developed by the Society of the Plastics Industry, involved preparing an amount of bacon that covered at least 50% of the dinner plate surface area [2], The plate with the bacon layer was heated in a microwave oven set at full power until the temperature at the center of the plate area reached 121°C ( 5°C). The time period required to reach this temperature within the bacon fat was 5 min on the microwave unit used for this test Immediately after the cooking cycle, the plate was cleaned on the lower rack of an automatic dishwasher. The dishwasher cycle was set at normal and included a heated dry cycle. The water temperature reached 66°C ( 5°C). Once the cycle was complete, the plate was inspected for surface blemishes such as cracks or blisters. This test is considered the most severe of the three due to the extreme localized heat generated, which causes the difference between the thermal coefficient of expansion for the two materials to shear the interface resulting in delamination. [Pg.543]

There are some other ways to apply coatings without the use of solvents. Plastisols315 involve the use of a paste of polyvinyl chloride particles in a plasticizer. Metal objects dipped in this can then be heated to harden the coating by dissolution of the plasticizer into the polymer. An example would be a wire rack for a dishwasher. Colored paint films can be laminated to plastics such as automobile parts and siding for houses by molding.316 Ideally, the dry paint film would be prepared by extrusion or other means that avoided the use of solvent. It is also possible to produce a coating from two monomer ingredients that polymerize in... [Pg.226]

Both domestic batch-scale and industrial continuous dishwashing machines are employed. A schematic diagram of the former is depicted in Figure 8.15. The device includes racks to support dishes, which are subject to aqueous sprays directed from below. The impact of the spray onto already wet surfaces results in aeration by a process that may, in some measure, resemble that occurring during a continuous Ross-Miles foam test (see Section 2.2.3). The presence of surface-active material therefore leads to foam formation. [Pg.467]

Hr Yes, even wineglasses, all but the super-thin type, can be dishwashed. Either lower the top rack to make space for the stems or make sure they don t butt up against other dishes. Even crystal can go in, if your dishwasher features a crystal mode or a temperature setting under 149° E... [Pg.177]
