A fume hood is constructed in the manner shown in figure 6. Strike drew the frame as being made of lumber but it can be made of rebar or, preferably, from PVC pipes and joints so that it can be assembled and disassembled with ease. The frame is enclosed with plastic drop cloths or any semiclear plastic sheeting. The front face of the hood is halfway covered with plastic while the bottom half is exposed to allow one to move objects in or out and to manipulate things. On top of the chamber is attached some clothes dryer duct or some such crap which is led to a leaf blower or blower motor. The exhaust from the blower is led away to the outside.

Equipment should be carefiiUy and completely degreased and passivated with low concentrations of fluorine or the gaseous halogen fluoride before use. Special care should be taken that valves are completely disassembled and each part carefiiUy cleaned. 

The influences of herbicides on cell division fall into two classes, ie, dismption of the mitotic sequence and inhibition of mitotic entry from interphase (G, S, G2). If ceU-cycle analyses indicate increases in abnormal mitotic figures, combined with decreases in one or more of the normal mitotic stages, the effect is upon mitosis. Mitotic effects usually involve the microtubules of the spindle apparatus in the form of spindle depolymerization, blocked tubulin synthesis, or inhibited microtubule polymerization (163). Alkaloids such as colchicine [64-86-8J,viahla.stiae [865-21-4] and vincristine [57-22-7] dismpt microtubule function (164). Colchicine prevents microtubule formation and promotes disassembly of those already present. Vinblastine and vincristine also bind to free tubulin molecules, precipitating crystalline tubulin in the cytoplasm. The capacities of these dmgs to interfere with mitotic spindles, blocking cell division, makes them useful in cancer treatment. 

The reinforced window frame channel, eg, the large Russian RM channel (109) and the smaller Russian U25B channel (110), is essentially a window frame channel inside a plastic box which serves as the pressure vessel and main stmctural member. It combines some features of both window frame and plastic box constmction. Frames can be segmented, although with some difficulty, for fault power control. This constmction is difficult to disassemble for inspection and/or refurbishment. 

Capacity. Pumps deHver a certain capacity, Q, sometimes referred to as flow, which can be measured directly by venturi, orifice plate (11), or magnetic meters (12) (see Flow measurement). The indirect way to determine capacity is often used. Whereas this method is less accurate than applying a flow meter, it often is the only method available in the field. The total head is measured and the capacity found from the pump head—capacity (H— curve (Fig. 2). More recently, sonic flow meters (13) have been used, which can be installed on the piping without the need for pipe disassembly. These meters are simple to use, but require relatively clean single-phase Hquid for reHable measurements.

However, conductive elastomers have only ca <10 of the conductivity of soHd metals. Also, the contact resistance of elastomers changes with time when they are compressed. Therefore, elastomers are not used where significant currents must be carried or when low or stable resistance is required. Typical apphcations, which require a high density of contacts and easy disassembly for servicing, include connection between Hquid crystal display panels (see Liquid crystals) and between printed circuit boards in watches. Another type of elastomeric contact has a nonconducting silicone mbber core around which is wrapped metalized contacts that are separated from each other by insulating areas (25). A newer material has closely spaced strings of small spherical metal particles in contact, or fine soHd wires, which are oriented in the elastomer so that electrical conduction occurs only in the Z direction (26).

Flanged Joints For sizes larger than 2 in when disassembly is contemplated, the flanged joint (Fig. 10-132) is the most widely used. 

Since electrodialysis membranes are subject to fouling, it is sometimes necessaiy to disassemble a stack for cleaning. Ease of reassembly is a feature of ED.

With the pump disassembled in the shop, the damage from vaporization eavitation is seen behind the impeller blades toward the eye of the impeller as illustrated below (Figure 3-1). 

To correct this condition with an opened impeller, it s nece,s,sary to perform an impeller adjustment to correct the strict tolerance between the blades and the volute. Some back pullout pumps arc designed with jack bolts on the power end of the bearing housing to easily perform this adjustment without pump disassembly.
