Design disassembly

The chief advantage of packing over other types of seals is the ease with which it can be adjusted or replaced. Most equipment is designed so that disassembly of major components is not required to... [Pg.940]

To correct this condition with an opened impeller, it s nece,s,sary to perform an impeller adjustment to correct the strict tolerance between the blades and the volute. Some back pullout pumps arc designed with jack bolts on the power end of the bearing housing to easily perform this adjustment without pump disassembly. [Pg.32]

In the food production and OTC (Over the Counter) Drug industries, like milk, soups, cough syrup, and juices, outside balanced seals are quite popular. Their design permits easy cleaning of the equipment without pump disassembly. These seals are prominent in the chemical processing industry because all metal components in the seal are located outside the fluid. This avoids problems of galvanic eorro.sion. [Pg.187]

Equipment for heating wheels in the field for assembly and disassembly are needed specially designed gas rings are often used for this purpose. [Pg.735]

CP-1 was assembled in an approximately spherical shape with the purest graphite in the center. About 6 tons of luanium metal fuel was used, in addition to approximately 40.5 tons of uranium oxide fuel. The lowest point of the reactor rested on the floor and the periphery was supported on a wooden structure. The whole pile was surrounded by a tent of mbberized balloon fabric so that neutron absorbing air could be evacuated. About 75 layers of 10.48-cm (4.125-in.) graphite bricks would have been required to complete the 790-cm diameter sphere. However, criticality was achieved at layer 56 without the need to evacuate the air, and assembly was discontinued at layer 57. The core then had an ellipsoidal cross section, with a polar radius of 209 cm and an equatorial radius of309 cm [20]. CP-1 was operated at low power (0.5 W) for several days. Fortuitously, it was found that the nuclear chain reaction could be controlled with cadmium strips which were inserted into the reactor to absorb neutrons and hence reduce the value of k to considerably less than 1. The pile was then disassembled and rebuilt at what is now the site of Argonne National Laboratory, U.S.A, with a concrete biological shield. Designated CP-2, the pile eventually reached a power level of 100 kW [22]. [Pg.437]

Designers must keep in mind that modem aircraft will likely be in service for thirty years and that repair of adhesive bonded structure will be inevitable. They must allow for reasonable disassembly of bonded stmcture for repair access as well as anticipate repair procedures that will not be unduly difficult for airline repair stations. [Pg.1160]

Lubricant seals must be in good condition and properly fitted into place. Coupling covers contain the lubricant and prevent contaminants from entering the coupling interior. The covers are designed in two configurations, split either horizontally or vertically. Holes are provided in the covers to allow lubricant to be added without coupling disassembly. [Pg.998]

Hub bores are usually straight, although for some special applications taper bores are sometimes specified. For smaller diameters, bores are designed for clearance fits and a set screw is used over the key. The major advantage of a clearance fit is that hubs can be easily assembled and disassembled. For larger diameters, the bores are designed for interference fits without setscrews. For rapid-reversing applications, interference fits are required. [Pg.999]

The various sizes and types utilize single-bar, multifield, multipole magnets singly or in factory assembled bar-bundles. They are further designed for easy disassembly and cleaning in systems with existing corrosion build-up or iron content in the water. ... [Pg.338]
