Filters are sometimes derived from test cargo calibration runs to optimize the explosive detection. The PFNA detection algorithm can be totally automated but previous demonstrations (prior to the 2005 Ysleta Port of Entry testing) have used operator intervention to evaluate the basic scan alarm regions before a directed scan is made of the selected basic scan alarm regions.

Monitoring methods may be classified as direct scanning without subsequent spectral conversion or as additional methcxls such as measutements based upon fluorescence, photo-acoustic spectroscopy, spin resonance, and radioactivity measurements.

Ascorbic acid and dipyrone (metamizole) are sometimes combined in pharmaceutical dosage forms to relive pain and fever. Simultaneous determination of ascorbic acid and dipyrone was done by TLC on silica gel using water-methanol (95 5 vol/vol) as the solvent. The developed plates were directly scanned at 260 nm. The Rf values for ascorbic acid and dipyrone were 0.92 and 0.65, respectively. 

This chapter has been reorganized to place greater emphasis on the physical structure of the atom, as determined from the classic experiments of Thomson, Millikan, and Rutherford. The chapter ends with direct scanning tunneling microscopy images of individual atoms in chemical reactions. Section 1.6 in Principles of Modern Chemistry, fifth edition (mole, density, molecular volume), has been moved to Chapter 2, which now gives a comprehensive treatment of formulas, stoichiometry, and chemical equations. 

In short, the capacitive plus resistive effects mainly result in an enhancement of the background currents in both the positive- and negative-directed scans. Apart from this, resistive and capacitance effects also influence the peak profile so that the peak is flattened and decreased and shifted toward more negative (cathodic peak) or more positive (anodic peak) potentials.

Clear transparent foils, which are used as covers for documents, are in wide use as are polystyrene windows in letter envelopes. There is some hysteresis associated with the electrocapillary curves. This is shown in the difference between the pzc values for cathodic and anodic scan directions (scanning to more negative and positive values respectively). This has been observed in other stress-voltage measurements. This hysteresis shows some scan rate dependence and is reduced at lower scan rates, suggesting that some kinetic factor may be involved.
