Digitaria sanguinalis

One of the features of allelopathy, as pointed out by Rice (18). is that it is specific. Certain species, but not others, are affected by the allelochemics produced by a plant. This suggests that allelopathy by a weed must be positively demonstrated for each crop. References to specific reports of demonstrated allelopathy by a weed on a crop are given in Table 1. In some cases [crabgrass (Digitaria sanguinalis (L.) Scop.), spurge (Euphorbia spp.), etc.], no crop is listed in the allelopathy column. [Pg.23]

Similar results were observed in a more recent work10 when BOA, DIBOA, and rye extract activities were studied. The results showed that BOA and DIBOA inhibit germination only in the small- to medium-seeded species Amaranthus palmeri, Digitaria sanguinalis, Echinochloa indica, Lactuca sativa, and Lycopersicon esculentum. Large-seeded crops, including cucurbits and Zea mays,... [Pg.254]

The mode of substitutions of the molecules may trigger effects on monocots and dicots. Thus, 5-chloro-6-methoxy-2-benzoxazolinone was fovmd to be especially toxic to the monocots Avena sativa, Phleum pratense L., Digitaria sanguinalis (L.) Scop., and Lolium multiflorum Lam. [99]. The dicots Amaranthus caudatus L., Lepidium sativum, and Lactuca sativa were less affected. The molecular reasons for the switch in sensitivity were, however, not discussed. [Pg.217]
