One of the features of allelopathy, as pointed out by Rice (18). is that it is specific. Certain species, but not others, are affected by the allelochemics produced by a plant. This suggests that allelopathy by a weed must be positively demonstrated for each crop. References to specific reports of demonstrated allelopathy by a weed on a crop are given in Table 1. In some cases [crabgrass (Digitaria sanguinalis (L.) Scop.), spurge (Euphorbia spp.), etc.], no crop is listed in the allelopathy column. [Pg.23]

Study 2. The effects of wheat, oats, barley and rye mulches on three broadleaf weed species and crabgrass (Digitaria spp.) are shown in Table VI. Weed control data for the corn test at Kinston are not presented because of poor cover crop kill by the paraquat treatment. [Pg.258]

Digitaria sanguinalis, whole plant Chlorogenic, isochlorogenic and sulfosalicylic acids 76, 77... [Pg.308]

It is possible that the resistance of certain plants to this chemical may reduce its effectiveness in the future, as the more susceptible weeds are killed and the resistant ones multiply. In Hawaii, Panicum repens was not killed even at 80 pounds per acre. Digitaria, nut grass, and Bermuda grass show some resistance in Puerto Rico. On one farm treated with CMU at 4 pounds per acre, almost pure stands of D. sanguinalie have appeared in some areas. [Pg.90]

The only stem materials examined were from the Setaria anceps and Digitaria decumbens grasses. The major substituted cyclobutane dimers in these walls appeared, from the mass spectral data, to be mixed dimers of ferulic acid and coniferyl alcohol (FA-ConAlc type). Further examination of the aromatics of stems is required but if such dimers are present then they may well be involved in the biosynthesis of lignin (41,42). [Pg.144]
