Ternary diffusion

Figure C2.3.8. Self-diffusion coefficients at 45°C for AOT ( ), water ( ) and decane ( ) in ternary AOT, brine (0.6% aqueous NaCl) and decane microemulsion system as a function of composition, a. This compositional parameter, a, is tire weight fraction of decane relative to decane and brine. Reproduced by pennission from figure 3 of [46]. Figure C2.3.8. This concept has also been demonstrated at ambient temperature in the case of the Li-Sn-Cd system [47,48]. The composition-de-pendences of the potentials in the two binary systems at ambient temperatures are shown in Fig. 15, and the calculated phase stability diagram for this ternary system is shown in Fig. 16. It was shown that the phase Li4 4Sn, which has fast chemical diffusion for lithium, is stable at the potentials of two of the Li-Cd reconstitution reaction plateaus, and therefore can be used as a matrix phase. [Pg.376]

Ternary Nitrides as Diffusion Barriers. Barrier layers with good step coverage and low resistivity are formed from ternary nitrides with various compositions Ti-Si-N, W-Si-N, and W-B-N. They are deposited by MOCVD with deposition temperatures between 300 and 450°C. Complete step coverage is obtained on reentrant features as low as 0.25 micron with an aspect ratio of 4.0.Pi]... [Pg.378]

For dilute, teal gases, where ternary and higher collisions can be neglected, the angle of deflection can be employed to evaluate a number of physical properties. Of course appropriate distributions of the values of g and b must be introduced. The resulting expressions for the virial coefficients and the transport properties (viscosity, diffusion and thermal conductivity) are quite complicated. The interested reader is referred to advanced books on this subject... [Pg.79]

Stable, conductive electrodes would also be a problem. Preliminary experiments, were carried out in a cell, using simulated flue gas nearly identical to that shown in Fig. 24. In these tests, the membranes were hot-pressed from mixed powders of electrolyte (ternary eutectic of [Na, Li, K]2 S04) with LiA102 as matrix. The electrodes were constructed of cold-pressed Li20-9Cr203, partially sintered to give a highly-porous gas-diffusion structure. The tests were encouraging up to 50% of the S02 was removed from the simulated flue gas with the application of current. Simultaneously, a stream of concentrated S03 and Oz was evolved at the anode. [Pg.238]

Nevertheless, many investigators have used the molecular diffusivities measured by Cole and Gordon (C12a) for CuS04 in the ternary system CuS04- H2S04-H20. The validity of these diffusivities for the purpose of limiting-current correlations has been questioned repeatedly (see Section IV,C,1). [Pg.233]

Adsorbed additives also tend to undergo reduction during the electroless process, and become incorporated as impurities into deposits, most likely via a mechanism similar to that involved in ternary alloy deposition. In a manner similar to that discussed below in greater detail for dissolved 02, electroless deposition rates will be lower for features smaller than the stabilizer diffusion layer thickness. The edges of larger features, which experience higher stabilizer levels due to enhanced nonplanar... [Pg.264]

A schematic illustration of the method, and of the correlation between binary phase diagram and the one-phase layers formed in a diffusion couple, is shown in Fig. 2.42 adapted from Rhines (1956). The one-phase layers are separated by parallel straight interfaces, with fixed composition gaps, in a sequence dictated by the phase diagram. The absence, in a binary diffusion couple, of two-phase layers follows directly from the phase rule. In a ternary system, on the other hand (preparing for instance a diffusion couple between a block of a binary alloy and a piece of a third... [Pg.64]

DATABASES (thermodynamic and diffusion). The calculations require a database for the material systems of interest. For the commercially important materials, databases have been developed by teams of experts critically assessing all experimental phase equilibria and thermodynamic data and, for the complex systems relevant for applications, by extrapolating from binary, ternary and quaternary subsystems. [Pg.75]
