Device actuation

Relief Valve - A relief valve is an automatic pressure-relieving device actuated by the static pressure upstream of the valve, and whieh opens in proportion to the increase in pressure over the opening pressure. It is used primarily for liquid service. [Pg.115]

A rupture disc device is a non-reclosing pressure relief device actuated by inlet static pressure and designed to function by the bursting of a pressure containing disc. [Pg.980]

Safety-Relief Valve this is an automatic pressure-relieving device actuated by the static pressure upstream of the valve and characterized by an adjustment to allow reclosure, either a pop or a non-pop action, and a nozzle type entrance and it reseats as pressure drops. It is used on steam, gas, vapor and liquid (with adjustments), and is probably the most general tyqDe of valve in petrochemical and chemical plants (Figures 7-3, 7-3A, and 7-4). Rated capacity is reached at 3% or 10% overpressure, depending upon code and/or process conditions. It is suitable for use either as a safety or a relief valve [1,10]. It opens in proportion to increase in internal pressure. [Pg.400]

Concussion Detonator Ml, Delay Type is a mechanical firing device actuated by the concussion wave of a nearby blast. It fires several charges simultaneously without connecting them by wires or detonating cord. A... [Pg.803]

Explosively Actuated Tools, Under this heading A.H.Oldham, Army Ordn 18, 361-6, (1938), reviewed some of the patents relating to die operation of tools and other mech. devices actuated bv means of exDls. Amone... [Pg.293]

Viscosity measurements were made with two Cannon-Ubbelohde viscometers, and timing was by an optical device actuating an electronic timer (Wescan Instruments, Inc.). An air thermostat was used. The viscometers were calibrated with redistilled air-saturated water over the range 10°-50°C. The kinetic-energy correction was used in the form ... [Pg.338]

There are two possible mechanisms that can lead to catastrophic vessel failure upon rapid depressurization, which is typically caused by metal failure or relief device actuation (Melhem et al., 1994) ... [Pg.27]

For this purpose, the simulation model of PrODHyS is used as a reference model to implement the functions of detection and diagnosis. The supervision module must be able to detect the faults of the physical systems (leak, energy loss, etc.) and the faults of the control/command devices (actuators, sensors, etc.). As defined in (De Kleer et al. [Pg.412]

One of the basic tenets of the science of physics has to do with the transducer. Evolving from the Latin word transducerey meaning literally to lead across/ it comprehends devices actuated by power from one system... [Pg.334]

PACKER A device inserted into a hole in which grout is to be injected which acts to prevent return of the grout around the injection pipe usually an expandable device actuated mechanically, hydraulically, or pneumatically. [Pg.492]

Reflux splitters. A reflux splitter (Fig. 19.5a) is an on/off solenoid-operated device actuated by a timer. The timer setting corresponds to a fixed reflux-distillate flow ratio. This setting is manipulated manually. The solenoid operates a slide gate that diverts all the liquid either to the column or to the product route. The solenoid operates at a high frequency so that neither reflux nor distillate flow is interrupted. [Pg.583]

HUMIDIFYING EFFECT - The latent heat of vaporization of water at the average evaporating temperature times the weight of water evaporated per unit of time. HUMIDISTAT - A regulatory device, actuated by changes in humidity, used for the automatic control of... [Pg.86]

People with severe physical impairments may only be able to effectively manipulate a single input device. Integrated controls are used to facilitate using a single input device (e.g., joystick, head switches, voice recognition system) to control multiple actuators (e.g., power wheelchair, environmental control unit, manipulator). This provides the user with greater control over the environment. The M3S-Multiple Master Multiple Slave bus is designed to provide simple, reliable access to a variety of assistive devices. Assistive devices include input devices, actuators, and end-effectors. M3S is based on the Computer Area Network (CAN) standard. [Pg.1146]

An automatic pressure-relieving device actuated by the pressure upstream of the valve and characterized by opening pop action with further increase in lift with an increase in pressure over popping pressure. See also Pressure Relief Device. Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI)... [Pg.246]

Although conducting polymers have received great attention in electronic or electrochemical devices for displays, energy storage devices, actuators, and sensors [3, 5], as mentioned above, the interchange rate is usually slow (i.e., a few... [Pg.491]

Will adequate duties (alanns, detectors, redundancy, and others.) be provided to minimize the risk of a relief device actuating due to equipment, instrumentation, or utility failure ... [Pg.145]

Breaking pin device in combination with pressure relief valve. This style of pressure relief device, as illustrated in Fig. 8-19, is very similar to the rupture disk and relief valve combination, except that a breaking pin is used in place of the rupture disk. The breaking pin device is a nonreclosing pressure relief device actuated by inlet static pressure and is designed to function by the breaking of the load carrying section of the pin. [Pg.133]

Interlock An electric or mechanical device, actuated by an external soruce, and used to govern the operation of another device. [Pg.642]

Relief Valve. A relief valve is a pressure-relief device actuated by inlet static pressure having a gradual lift generally proportional to the increase in pressure over opening pressure. It may be provided with an enclosed spring housing suitable for closed-discharge system application and is primarily used for liquid service. [Pg.846]

Device actuation will temporarily disturb the gas supply to the gas chromatograph and affect its performance. The quality of the gas used for valve actuation is not demanding, so there is no need to use high-purity gas for this purpose. Make sure that the actuation gas is oil and particle-free to obtain the best long-term performance from the actuation equipment. [Pg.494]
