Propellant actuated devices PAD

A special category of ignition system is the cartridge actuated device (CAD) also known as the Propellant Actuated Device (PAD) which serves to generate the mechanical force to close switches (in the manner of a squib) or to perform otherwise mechanical work (Vol 2, C70-R Ref 138, p 167)... [Pg.992]

Encycl, under Cartridges and Cartridge-Actuated Devices (CAD s), called Propellant Actuated Devices (PAD s) by US Ordnance Corps and Power Cartridges by USNaval-... [Pg.665]

Cartridge-Actuated Devices (CAD), now preferentially called Propellant-Actuated Devices (PAD), are used for ejection of stores from dispensers of airplanes, for the complex mechanisms of ejection of pilots from fast-flying aircraft as well as astronauts from spacecraft (such as Gemini) in cases of low-altitude aborts. The major devices are classed as Removers (Retraclors), Thrusters, Catapults, Guillotine-Type Cutters, and certain Initiators (for operation of other PAD s). [Pg.167]
