Design modular unit

Sink-float plants are usually custom-designed for each individual apphcation. However, for coal beneficiation modular units are avah-... [Pg.1788]

In the new designs, if coolant were lost, the nuclear chain reaction would be terminated by the reactor s negative temperature coefficient after a modest temperature rise. Core diameter of the modular units would be limited so that decay heat could be conducted and radiated to the environment without overheating the fuel to the point where fission products might escape. Thus, inherent safety would be realized without operator or mechanical device intervention. [Pg.1111]

Duration of sorption processes in a couple of modular design sorbers is lower, than in a couple of monoblock design sorbers. Thus, optimum phases of charging and recharging of modular sorbers are 4-5 minutes and 6-8 minutes, respectively, and 5-6 minutes and 8-10 minutes for monoblock sorbers it refers to 2.5 times larger heat exchange surface in modular unit than in monoblock sorbers. [Pg.848]

Space stations are structures designed to allow hiunans to live in space. There are two basic types monohthic and modular. Monolithic space stations are one-piece structures. They are launched into space as single units. The U.S. Skylab was a monolithic space station. Modular space stations are launched into space as separate sections and then assembled in outer space. The International Space Station (Figure 12-24) is a modular unit. [Pg.264]

Safety devices such as air sensors and pressure transducers are built into preparative HPLC units, together with a series of valves. These devices create dead volume and contribute to the extra column volume. A large-scale chromatography unit is composed of valves for selection of buffers and feed solutions, at least two pumps, the separation column, and, in most cases, at least one detector. Instead of a fraction collector, a combination of valves is often used. These sources of dead volume create typical washout kinetics, which contribute exponentially to the band-broadening processes. For the industrial scale, the equipment is mainly customer designed. For medium scale, modular units are available [51]. Attention should be paid to extra column volume when systems are compared. Extra column effects are an important parameter of the quality of a system and should be considered when a system is purchased. [Pg.298]

The purpose of this section is to describe the chemical and thermodynamic relations governing fuel cells and how operating conditions affect their performance. Understanding the impacts of variables such as temperature, pressure, and gas constituents on performance allows fuel cell developers to optimize their design of the modular units and it allows process engineers to maximize the performance of systems applications. [Pg.54]

The basic active devices which are used in preamplifiers in chronological sequence are tubes, transistors, field-effect transistors (FET s), and chips. Chips are self-contained microelectronic semiconductor circuits which are now available in numerous configurations. Thus one can buy certain basic amplifiers and other circuits as chips for incorporation into electronic systems. Much instrument design is now being done using these ready-to-use modular units. Many chips are comparable in size to transistors and have low power requirements. [Pg.161]

Large utilities with a big grid size will still favour large units for reasons of the economy of scale. In order to cope with economics of scale, SMRs have to incorporate specific design features that result into reduced complexity of the overall plant design, modularization and... [Pg.3]

The AHTR design offers factory assembled modular units with ease of transport. [Pg.34]

The key words of small and modular make the small modular reactors (SMRs) different than other reactors. Small denotes the reactor s decreased power size. Modular denotes (1) the primary coolant system (such as the reactor (RX) component in a light water SMR) enveloped by a pressure boundary and (2) modular construction of components. Modular design requires compact architecture that is built in facility. For instance, the term of modular for a light water SMR (LW-SMR) is used for the RX, since it covers the reactor core and primary coolant system so that the overall power of a power plant can easily be increased by increasing the modular units. [Pg.661]
