Transformation data representation

Data Representation. Transformations can be applied to the data so that they will more closely follow the normal distribution that is required for certain procedures or for removing (or lessening) unwanted influences. Certainly for data analysis in which major, minor, and trace elemental concentrations are used, some form of scaling is necessary to keep the variables with larger concentrations from having excessive weight in the calculation of many coefficients of similarity. [Pg.67]

Functional vs. data abstraction Functional abstraction refers to the case where a module has some kind of transformation/coordination character. Hence, an interface resource transforms some kind of input data into corresponding output data, or the component coordinates the resources of lower components. Functional abstraction facilitates the hiding of algorithmic details of this transformation/coordination. In contrast, data abstraction is present if the module encapsulates the access to some kind of memory or state . Then, the module hides the realization of the data representation. The module s interface only shows how the data can be used, not how it is mapped onto the underlying storage. [Pg.562]

Multi-layer feedforward networks contain an input layer connected to one or more layers of hidden neurons (hidden units) and an output layer (Figure 3.5(b)). The hidden units internally transform the data representation to extract higher-order statistics. The input signals are applied to the neurons in the first hidden layer, the output signals of that layer are used as inputs to the next layer, and so on for the rest of the network. The output signals of the neurons in the output layer reflect the overall response of the network to the activation pattern supplied by the source nodes in the input layer. DDD is a transformation system that operates on expressions of these forms. It as a first-order reasoning tool in which implementation proofs are presented as algebraic derivations. It is proficient at the large-scale formal manipulations involved as structure is imposed on a behavioral specification and as concrete data representations are introduced. At the end of the 2D experiment, we will have acquired a set of N FIDs composed of quadrature data points, with N /2 points from channel A and points from channel B, acquired with sequential (alternate) sampling. How the data are processed is critical for a successful outcome. The data processing involves (a) dc (direct current) correction (performed automatically by the instrument software), (b) apodization (window multiplication) of the <2 time-domain data, (c) Fourier transformation and phase correction, (d) window multiplication of the t domain data and phase correction (unless it is a magnitude or a power-mode spectrum, in which case phase correction is not required), (e) complex Fourier transformation in Fu (f) coaddition of real and imaginary data (if phase-sensitive representation is required) to give a magnitude (M) or a power-mode (P) spectrum. Correspondence factor analysis can be described in three steps. First, one applies a transformation to the data which involves one of the three types of closure that have been described in the previous section. This step also defines two vectors of weight coefficients, one for each of the two dual spaces. The second step comprises a generalization of the usual singular value decomposition (SVD) or eigenvalue decomposition (EVD) to the case of weighted metrics. In the third and last step, one constructs a biplot for the geometrical representation of the rows and columns in a low-dimensional space of latent vectors. [Pg.183]

Unipolar and bipolar axes have been discussed in Section 31.2. Briefly, a unipolar axis is defined by the origin and the representation of a row or column. A bipolar axis is drawn through the representations of two rows or through the representations of two columns. Projections upon unipolar axes reproduce the values in the transformed data table.
