Handling hazardous and dangerous substances

Hazardous substances can be supplied in different ways depending on the quantity involved, from the small retail package to supply in semi-bulk containers and bulk supplies by tanker. Whatever the size of the container, if a dangerous substance or substance hazardous to health is involved, the container must be labelled to identify its contents. (CHIP 2002 specifies the sizes of labels for variously sized containers.) 

When handling chemicals, whether at the supply stage or during use or disposal, certain procedures should be followed to ensure operator safety. The particular procedure depends on the manner of supply or use and is considered in two parts
