Cyclic durability

This boron- and carbon-doped SiC exhibits excellent strength and stiffness, extreme hardness, and thermal and chemical resistance. The strength of this system is not affected by temperatures up to 1650°C. Creep is virtually nonexistent up to 1400°C. Cyclic durability testing conducted at 1370°C in air showed no deterioration of strength after 3500 h (94). [Pg.466]

Fuel cells, especially PEMFCs, can be used for various applications ranging from portable power supply for use in consumer electronic devices to stationary deployment for combined heat and power generation. Another potential application is transportation, in which fuel cell systems are developed for the propulsion of cars. The performance, operating conditions, costs, and durability requirements differ depending on the application. Transportation applications demand stringent requirements on fuel cell systems. Only the durability requirement in the transportation field is not as rigorous as the stationary application, although cyclic durability is necessary. [Pg.761]

To demonstrate that flexible graphite gaskets can accommodate some difference in the degree of expansion between the membrane and module components, the experiment was repeated using feed-charmel and permeate-channel frames made of 304 stainless steel, while the membrane support remained Monel. Cyclic durability was very good, and the membranes remained devoid of visible wrinkles. [Pg.146]

Membrane failure modes have been discussed above, and the connection to module design has also been discussed. Poor design for cyclic durability will be measured by the customer - the operating costs will be adversely affected by the requirement to replace membranes prematurely. Although the cost of membrane replacement should be offset by a recycle credit, the cost of materials and labor, and potential lost productivity, is stQl likely to be significant. The credit for recy-cUng palladium alloy membranes may be as great as 95% of the market value of the palladium (for foil membranes, perhaps only 85% of the market value if the palladium alloy is deposited onto a porous substrate). Environmentally, recycle also offers benefits versus recovery and purification of palladium from ore. [Pg.152]

Allen and Dean have confirmed the findings of Lewis et al and have tested the reliability of prediction of the endurance limit by cyclic durability testing. They have shown that joints prepared with a vinyl-phenolic adhesive were damaged when subjected to a loading cycle above the endurance limit but not when the loading cycle was below the endurance limit. [Pg.394]

Improved cyclic durability through optimized masses and plate geometry. [Pg.132]

Mg adhesion layer, increased the cyclic durability by a factor of two where as switchable mirrors that had been deposited in the presence of hydrogen (Gdi Mg H. ) were observed to have improvement by a factor of 10. In contrast, no improvement in cyclic lifetime was observed in the presence of an extra buffer layer (Al, AlO. . GdMg oxide, Cap2 and Nb). [Pg.247]

Standard procedures that are used for testing of construction materials are based on square pulse actions or their various combinations. For example, small cyclic loads are used for forecast of durability and failure of materials. It is possible to apply analytical description of various types of loads as IN actions in time and frequency domains and use them as analytical deterministic models. Noise N(t) action as a rule is represented by stochastic model. [Pg.189]

The problem of durability in cycles of freezing and thawing has received much attention. In cold climates, cyclic freezing and thawing is certainly one of the more common causes of durability failure of exposed concrete and other building materials. The currently accepted mechanisms of failure in portland cement and sulphur concretes are different. Both mechanisms are discussed for subsequently obvious reasons. [Pg.138]

In sulphur concretes, the mechanism of deterioration caused by frost action has been attributed to entirely different causes to those above. The material has low permeability to moisture and as water is not used in mixing, it was not considered that water played a major role in deterioration. Sulphur has a very high coefficient of thermal expansion (a - 55 x 10 6/°C) and low thermal conductivity (0.27 W/m K). Hence the poor durability performance in cyclical freezing and thawing has been attributed to the development of high stresses due to thermal gradients (5,... [Pg.139]

The adhesive should be selected on the basis of durability as defined by slow cyclic testing in a hot and humid environment. [Pg.349]

One current commercial flame retardant for polyester is a mixture of cyclic phosphate/phosphonates used in a pad-dry-heat set process (Fig. 8.18). ° Heat set conditions of 190-210 C for 0.5-2 min are adequate. This product when applied at 3 % add-on can provide durable flame retardancy to a wide variety of polyester textiles. [Pg.109]

CNC REZ K is a modified ethylene urea formaldehyde resin which was created to give the finisher a thermosetting resin which possesses all of the outstanding features of cyclic resins as to shrinkage control, crease resistance, hand appeal and also not detract from soil release properties. This resin gives fairly soft hand on all classes of fibres and is exceptionally durable on the polyester/cotton blends. [Pg.202]

CNC REZ LFR is a modified cyclic cross-linking resin. High quality wash and wear and durable press finishes can be produced by pad or foam apparatus. When properly cured, free formaldehyde on fabric is 100-150 ppm. [Pg.203]
