Durability cyclic fatigue

Cyclic fatigue is another long-term durability requirement for ceramic matrix composites. As part of the LC project, a limited assessment was made of the isothermal fatigue performance of the SiOC Nextel 312 BN 2-D composites. [Pg.365]

The effects occurring by cyclical fatigue of polyurethane elastomer are influenced by the unitary stress values and accentuated by the concomitant polymer ageing. Figure 3.307. As expected, the deformations. Table 3.108, and durability. Figure 3.308, are changed, too. [Pg.151]

The Nffd) dependence is typically a linear decaying function when plotted on a log-linear scale, that is, log Nf = a - bo. As one can see, this expression is similar to the one established in the static durability testing. This similarity has a particular physical meaning (in a statistical aspect). Furthermore, the extrapolation to a 0 is not valid here either upon the lowering of the applied stress or strain to a particular value, the value of increases rapidly, that is, there is a cyclic fatigue limit similar to the static fatigue limit. [Pg.210]

One important area where durability models have been successfully developed is in the prediction of the Joint behaviour under the combined effects of an aggressive environment and cyclic-fatigue loads. In this approach the fracture-... [Pg.691]

Some important experiments have highlighted the role of voids in laminates under cyclic loading when in water. To validate the design of GRP hulls for durability and performance in the tropical waters of the Persian Gulf, the Procurement Executive of the UK Ministry of Defence commissioned creep and fatigue tests at loads equivalent to one-eighth of the static... [Pg.242]

Krieger has argued that the fatigue life of structural adhesives cannot be usefully predicted by thick adherent lap shear specimens. He has described a test sample configuration more appropriate for determining the durability of skin-doubler assemblies. The skin-doubler specimens proposed were found to survive peak cyclic strains that produced failures with conventional thick adherent specimens. [Pg.395]

Under the exploitation conditions, the polymers are supposed both to the action of continuous efforts (creep conditions) and cyclical ones and the fatigue phenomenon accompanies these processes. The polymer fatigue is manifested not only to the high values but also to the low ones, acting for prolonged periods, of the applied stress. In the last case the polymer durability is expressed as [855] ... [Pg.129]

Durability Under Cyclic Straining. Both nltimate strength and allowable strain may be reduced by fatigue. Guidance shonld be sought from the pipe manufacturer. [Pg.757]
