Current profitability

Funding is a particularly sensitive issue. All of the world s facilities that reclaim materials from Ni-Cd batteries at present are being paid to do so. That is, because of low metal prices, reclamation - even where the reclaimer has no responsibility for collection - is not currently profitable through the recovery of the metals alone. Thus, a funding mechanism for Ni-Cd battery collection and recycling programs must be established before a program can be realistically implemented. [Pg.144]

How does the current profit situation of the company compare to the market situation ... [Pg.2887]

Such a depressed economic situation for SBR now discourages technical developments. Most observers seem agreed that the solution polymerised SBRs are or can be superior to the emulsion materials. However, the current profitability discourages investment in new plant so that it may well be many years before these improved materials become the norm. [Pg.10]

At sufficiently high frequency, the electromagnetic skin depth is several times smaller than a typical defect and induced currents flow in a thin skin at the conductor surface and the crack faces. It is profitable to develop a theoretical model dedicated to this regime. Making certain assumptions, a boundary value problem can be defined and solved relatively simply leading to rapid numerical calculation of eddy-current probe impedance changes due to a variety of surface cracks. [Pg.141]

For a profitable electrochemical process some general factors for success might be Hsted as high product yield and selectivity current efficiency >50%, electrolysis energy <8 kWh/kg product electrode, and membrane ia divided cells, lifetime >1000 hours simple recycle of electrolyte having >10% concentration of product simple isolation of end product and the product should be a key material and/or the company should be comfortable with the electroorganic method. [Pg.86]

Since different meanings are ascribed to both annual profit and invested capital in Eq. (9-25), it is important to define the terms precisely. The invested capital may refer to the original total capital investment, the depreciated investment, the average investment, the current value of the investment, or something else. The annual profit may refer to the net annual profit before tax A vp, the net annual profit after tax Awp, the annual cash income before tax Aci, or the annual cash income after tax A vcf... [Pg.806]

To ascertain profit or loss (calculated as income minus expenditure for a given accounting period), income and expenditure must be matched. For example, any rent paid in advance beyond the current accounting period should not be included in the profit or loss calculation. Similarly, goods sold but not yet paid for in a given accounting period should not be included in the revenue total for that period. [Pg.838]

Ereviously purchased at a lower cost than their current cost, profit will e overstated. Any overstatement of profit will mean that more tax will be paid. [Pg.839]

Althou a high current ratio is desirable, this may be achieved by having unnecessarily high inventories that bring no profit except when commodity prices are rising rapidly. The quick ratio is less misleading in this respect. [Pg.850]

The calculation of resource life involves the important distinction between reserves and resources. The current reserve is the known deposits which can be extracted profitably at today s price using today s technology it bears little relationship to the true magnitude of the resource base in fact, the two are not even roughly proportional. [Pg.20]

Primary Mined particularly for the molybdenum contained in the ores. In some instances, molybdenum could be the only valuable metal recovered from the ore. The Questa deposit in New Mexico is mined exclusively for molybdenum content. In other deposits molybdenum may be the main product recovered together with one or more products. In these deposits the molybdenum content alone would allow for a profitable operation. The ore at the Climax mine in Colorado is of this type. Currently, monazite, pyrite, tin, and tungsten are recovered from the ore none of these by-products exists singly nor together in sufficient quantity so that the ore could be mined profitably merely for the extraction of one or all of these by-products. [Pg.65]

In a petroleum refinery a large number of different products are produced, and the demand for some of these products is seasonal. For instance, there is not much need for residential fuel oil in the summer. The price of products also varies from day to day. To optimize the company s profit, it is therefore necessary periodically to vary the amount of each product produced. This can be done by changing the amounts of material sent to cracking units and reformers and by changing the conditions in these and other process steps. Some petroleum companies provide a computer with the data on market prices, current inventories, and crude oil compositions. The computer output then specifies the operating conditions that will yield the greatest profit for the company. The computer could then make the changes in these conditions directly, or this could be done manually. [Pg.161]

As time goes on, more and more people are being involved in these types of plant design. Most chemical companies estimate that 50% of their profits 10 years hence will come from products not currently known to their research laboratories. Since these will compete with other products now on the market, there will be a great need for improving present processes and estimating a rival s financial status. [Pg.495]
