Curing Agents, Accelerators

Polyester resins are usually cured by addition of special chemicals that decompose to free radicals, offering a simple technique that can easily be controlled, regarding rate and length of cure. Polyester resins can also be cured [Pg.152]

Organic peroxides are derivatives of hydrogen peroxide. They can be used to initiate a polymerization reaction, and influence the quality and final properties. In the context of additives, they can be used to cure unsaturated polyester resins, and cross-link thermoplastics (such as polyethylene and EVA) and elastomers. There is a very large number of different types. They are produced in liquid form and as masterbatch, in powder and granule, paste, and flake, and as dispersions. [Pg.153]

Persulphates (inorganic diperoxysulphates of ammonium, potassium, and sodium, and triple salt potassium monopersulphate) are used as initiators in the polymer and fibre industry, as well as other applications in other industrial sectors. [Pg.153]

Novel, toughened one-component epoxy structural adhesives based on epoxy-terminated polyurethane prepolymer incorporating an oxolidone structure were developed to provide improved toughness, fracture resistance and adhesive properties with good chemical and moisture resistance.21 The hybrid resin cures with a standard latent curing agent/accelerator. [Pg.133]

An ultraviolet (UV) spectrum of an aqueous rubber extract identifies and quantifies the antioxidants, curing agents, accelerators, and other UV-absorbing species extracted from the compound. [Pg.1474]

Accelerators (promoters) are substances which hasten a reaction, usually by acting in conjunction with a catalyst or a curing agent. Accelerators are sometimes used in the polymerization of thermoplastics, but are used most widely in curing systems for thermosets and natural and synthetic rubbers. Accelerators are sometimes called cocatalysts (1). [Pg.293]

The principal manufacturing process includes the moulding of reinforcements and the resin mix into the desired shape. In addition to manual processes, there are many partly or totally closed procedures in which the workers exposure to matrix or reinforcing material is of short duration. Before the moulding, resins are formulated by mixing the basic resin with solvents, curing agents, accelerators, fillers, mould... [Pg.611]

If the rate of polysulfide oligomer curing is to be lowered, numerous procedures may be applied. One of these requires the substitution for a part of Pb02 with PbO. The same effect is produced by the introduction into the system of oleic or stearic acids. The efficiency of these agents decreases with medium humidity and during use. Yet some curing agent-accelerator-inhibitor combinations are preferred (Table 7). [Pg.480]
