Accelerating agents

Decontamination. If contaminated equipment or material does not have to be used immediately, natural aeration is an effective decontaminant procedure, as most chemical agents, including the bHster and V-agents, are volatile to a certain degree. Wind accelerates their evaporation and hastens their dissipation. Rain and dew may also cause sufficient hydrolysis of some agents. Sunlight increases the surface temperatures of military equipment and thus accelerates agent evaporation. 

The same reaction was performed without using the accelerating agent tetrabutylammonium tetrafluoroborate by Schmidt (1). The yellow brown solids...

Ethylene is produced in measurable amounts in a number of fruits, leaves, and shoots under normal conditions (7, 46, 59, 72) and in large amounts after treatment with certain chemicals 14, 43, 44, 46), mechanical stresses (72), and adverse environmental factors (73). Thus, acceleration of abscission by many agents seems to occur via ethylene production—a fact that is being used to assay chemicals as potential accelerating agents for abscission 74). Apparently, this is the basis for the induction of abscission by placement of abscission chemicals on the surface of an organ such as an orange 41). 

Accelerating agents which are usually metal oxides (MgO, PbO) or organic substances such as thiazoles, mercaptobenzthiazoles (MET) or sulphenamides. Activators are required to make the organic accelerators function effectively. These can typically be zinc oxide and stearic acid. Stearic acid also acts as a lubricant, softener and plasticiser. 

The hypothesis of a sulfur/asphalt chemical reaction without release of hydrogen sulfide has been put forward by certain writers (3, 4) who have used vulcanization accelerating agents to reduce the maturing time to a few hours. After the chemical determinations of dissolved sulfur, this laboratory agrees that a sulfur/asphalt chemical reaction occurs. 

In the rubber industry, chemicals containing amines are used as vulcanization accelerating agents, which may be transformed during the production process (vulcanization) into nitrosamines. Such substances are added to condoms to give the rubber the needed degree of elasticity.
