The INTROS Flaw Detector is certified by the Russian State Standard Service (GOSSTANDART) as well as approved by the Russian State Mining and Technology Safety Inspection (GOSGORTECHNADZOR). It is used to inspect mining hoist and crane ropes. Fig. 5 illustrates the INTROS use at the mining hoist of an Ural ore mine. The previous model of the instrument, MDK-11 was used to inspect ropes of the air rope ways in Caucasus and Kazakhstan in 1996. Fig. 6 shows the INTROS MDK-11 inspection of 45 mm skyline rope in Almaty, Kazakhstan. 

Inherently safer principles also apply to mechanical integrity requirements. Design plant modifications for ease and reduced risk in inspections, code compliance, and maintenance. In 1854, the Manchester Steam Users Association was formed to help with the prevention of explosions in steam boilers and to find efficient methods in their use. To achieve this, the Association employed the first boiler inspectors, whose services were then made available to the Association s members. Within a short space of time, the members became convinced that insurance to cover the high cost of repair or replacement of damaged boilers was desirable, and this resulted in the first boiler insurance company (The Steam Boiler Assurance Company) being formed in 1858. The scope of the services for inspection and insurance later extended to include pressure vessels, steam engines, cranes, lifts and electrical plant, the insurance protection in each case being supported by an inspection service carried out by qualified engineer surveyors. 

Inspection by independent persons or bodies for safety purposes goes back to the middle of the nineteenth century. At that time, the focus of concern was the explosion of steam boilers, and this hazard was most prevalent in the textile industry. Consequently, a group of public-spirited individuals formed the Manchester Steam Users Association for the Prevention of Boiler Explosion. This body carried out boiler examinations and later added insurance as an inducement to the plant owners. By the beginning of the twentieth century steam and gas engines and electrical machines had been added, followed by lifts, cranes and hoisting machines.

Percent PM/PdM compliance Measures the execution and compliance to completing scheduled PMs, PdM data collection, lube services, scheduled structural/process inspections, calibrations, etc. Typical completion of scheduled PM/PdM actions required within a week s window of time is used as criterion for compliance. This metric can also apply to instrumentation calibration and to any regulatory inspections such as crane, fire protection testing/PM, etc.

The drive section is exposed only to the reactor-containment-building air enviromnent and can be installed using the polar crane. All parts requiring routine service or inspection are located on the drive section and on the in-vessel section above the reactor head to provide for easy accessibility. The d5mamic elastomeric seals, which are located in the upper end of the in-vessel section, are continuously monitored, but any necessary replacement of these seals will be done at the facility used to store the IVTM in-vessel section.
