Crane block

Molds can be made from either metallic or nonmetallic materials. Metallic and nonmetallic molds are heated to the same temperature, which can be up to 120°C. Metallic molds are much more heat conductive than molds made from polyurethane or epoxy. When handling the metal molds, clean, heat-resistant gloves must be worn to prevent burning of the skin. The weight of these molds must be taken into account when handling them. Suitable lifting equipment such as a crane, block and tackle, or a forklift must be used. [Pg.74]

There are three types of blocks snatch, wire rope, and crane block. Figure 9.1 shows variations of the snatch block and wire rope block. A typical wire rope block is shown in Figure 9.2. [Pg.182]

When testing the limit switch, stand to the side and away from other workers and machines. Push the up button on the pendant control and allow the block to travel. Stop the block several inches from the limit switch. Slowly inch up the block until it touches the limit switch. At that point the crane block should not travel upward. The block can now be lowered. This process should be repeated at the start of each work shift. [Pg.181]

Never lift more than the allowed capacity of the crane. Load limits should be marked on the bridge of the crane. It is also a good idea to identify the capacity on the sides of the crane block. If a two-block crane is being used, each block must be identified for its capacity. [Pg.181]

Never make a side pull. Side pulls are the result of the crane trolley not being directly over the load, or the crane block and hook are attached to a load beyond the perimeter of the crane s access. When side pulls occur, the crane s cable usually winds improperly on the drum, which means the cable can be damaged by the drum s cable grooves. [Pg.181]
