It is well known that flnorescence from an RP-18 phase is much brighter than from a silica gel plate, because the coating of RP-18 material blocks nomadiative deactivation of the activated sample molecules. By spraying a TLC plate with a viscous liquid, e g., paraffin oil dissolved in hexane (20 to 67%), the fluorescence of a sample can be tremendously enhanced. The mechanism behind fluorescence enhancement is to keep molecules at a distance either from the stationary layer or from other sample molecules [14]. Therefore, not only paraffin oil, but a number of different molecules show this enhancement effect. [Pg.169]

Usually polymeric substances of appropriate chemical structure and morphology which promote the miscibility of incompatible materials. Block copolymers are especially useful surfactants at the polymer/polymer interface because the two blocks can be made up from molecules of the individual polymers to be mixed. Typical compatibilisers in polymer blends are LDPE-g-PS in PE/PS CPE in PE/PVC acrylic- -PE, -PP, -EPDM in polyolefin/PA and maleic-g-PE, -PP, -EPDM, -SEBS in polyolefin/polyesters. [Pg.777]

Side effects include delayed and impaired judgment, sleep onset, reduced appetite, weight loss, tics, stomachache, headache, and jitteriness. Convulsions and coma may occur. Individuals who ingest amphetamine by dissolving the tablets in water and injecting the mixture risk complications due to the insoluble fillers used in the tablets. When injected, those materials block small blood vessels and can cause serious damage to the lungs and retina of the eye. [Pg.39]

The main focus of this of this work is to investigate the interaction between the transmitted wave and dislocation sources. However, when the stress wave hits the rigid base, it reflects back to the material block and interacts with the dislocations again. In order to minimize the effects of the reflected waves, the length of the cell (25 pm) is chosen such that once the wave front reaches the bottom surface, the value of the stresses in the position where the dislocations are located is small so that dislocation relaxation process can take place well before the wave hits the bottom of the RVE. A better solution to isolate the effect of the reflected wave would be by implementing a suitable non-reflective FE boundary condition. [Pg.335]

Particulate materials in HPLC solvents are the potential source of many problems. These materials block the solvent reservoir inlet filters, score pistons, wear piston seals, and plug column inlet frits. Therefore, particulates must be removed from the solvent prior to use. [Pg.43]
