In June of 2003, the U.S. Army unearthed 113 bacteria-containing vials, including live strains of brucellosis and non-virulent anthrax, during excavation of its Fort Detrick site to eliminate toxic chemicals and hazardous waste. (Credit The Council for Responsible Genetics)... [Pg.114]

The Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) and the Consumer Health Products Association (CHPA) contribute to new standards for over-the-counter articles. Growth continued on the multiple vitamin-mineral combinations described by class monographs for cough and cold remedies, which include a very large number of products. [Pg.2854]

The Facility Managers Council has responsibility for developing a recommended PSM system for facilities, under the direction of the division Vice President for Environmental, Hearth, and Safety. [Pg.34]

The American Chemistry Council s Responsible Care Security Code is designed to encourage continuous improvement in security performance by using a risk-based approach to identify, assess, and address vulnerabilities prevent or mitigate incidents enhance training and response capabilities and maintain and improve relationships with key stakeholders. As a condition of membership in the council, each member company must implement the Security Code for facilities, transportation and value chain, and cyber security. [Pg.109]

The present volume of the series focuses on the interplay between organisms and the physical chemistry of the environmental media in which they live. It critically discusses the different physicochemical and biophysical features of the kinetics of processes at the biointerface, with special attention given to aspects such as bioavailability of chemical species, analysis of the necessary mass transfer towards/from the biointerface, routes of transfer through the biomembrane, etc. This volume was realised within the framework of the activities of the former IUPAC Commission on Fundamental Environmental Chemistry of the Division of Chemistry and the Environment. We thank the IUPAC officers responsible, especially the executive director, Dr John Jost, for their support and assistance. We also thank the International Council for Science (ICSU) for financial support of the work of the Commission. This enabled us to organise the discussion meeting of the full team of chapter authors (in Diibendorf, Switzerland, 2001) which formed such an essential step in the preparation and harmonisation of the various chapters of this book. [Pg.569]

Let me shift gears and talk about the survey from the Council for Chemical Research (CCR) done in July 1997. This was a survey sent to 450 members of the CCR, mostly chairs of chemistry and chemical engineering in the United States, but we also included people overseas in Europe, Japan, and Taiwan. We received almost 200 responses (shown in Figure 5.4) about half of the responses were from the United States and the other half from overseas. [Pg.53]

Professor Johann Schlebusch is a pharmacist who has been involved in medicine regulatory affairs since 1972. He has extensive experience as an assessor of GMP and QA, and wcis responsible for the assessment of modifications and changes to the quality part of the medicine registration application. He was the Registrar of Medicines from 1983 to 1998 and Director of the Directorate (secretariat) of the Medicines Control Council for the same period. [Pg.666]

Taschler, David R., PE is a business manager at Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. in Allentown, PA and an adjunct professor in the Engineering Division at Lafayette College in Easton, PA. He conducted his doctoral research on the Characteristics of Board of Director Members and Corporate Commitment to Sustainable Development at the University of Phoenix. Dr. Taschler is a former Management Verifier for the American Chemistry Council s Responsible Care program and is a member of the AIChE Sustainability Division and the Academy of Management. [Pg.510]

Office is responsible for distributing publications of South African Council for Scientific and Industrial Research in United States and Canada. Copies of all current technical reports and publications are available. Files go back to 1948, with few publications prior to this date. Office acts as technical information office. Staff answers questions or refers inquiries concerning scientific research and technology in Union of South Africa to parent organization in Pretoria. [Pg.472]

An early mover in voluntary initiatives was that of Responsible Care begun in Canada in 1987 to develop the principles on which the chemical industry could base its product development from laboratory to disposal, to improve its health, safety and environmental performance (see Table 1). That was taken up by the International Council for Chemical Associations in 1991 and now covers 87 per cent of global chemical production in 42 countries. Mainly adopted by the larger multi-nationals, the Responsible Care concept needs to be extended to more small and medium sized enterprises [3],... [Pg.72]

The assays to be discussed in the following sections are based on bovine TSH (standards), and most studies of the biochemical effects of TSH have involved the use of b-TSH. International standards are available for both b-TSH and h-TSH assays, and these may be obtained from the British Medical Research Council. The response to a particular TSH varies with the type of assay (Bl). Therefore, when TSH is assayed, dose response curves must be based on a reference standard. Species variation is valuable in identifying differences between TSH and other TSH-like material. LATS, for example, does not stimulate thyroid function in the chick (L3). [Pg.394]

The Council for Chemical Research played a critical role in the production of the World of Chemistry. CCR was responsible for raising most of the industrial support needed for the project. In addition, I represented CCR on the World of Chemistry Advisory Committee where I helped edit the series. [Pg.174]
