Correlation studies

Biomarkers form a small percentage of bitumen and cmde oils, but relative distributions and complex stmctures are modified by the various processes involved during petroleum generation and accumulation. These biomarkers are widely used for correlation studies, and for recognition and documentation of the progress of generation and maturation (52,53). [Pg.162]

Electron correlation studies demand basis sets that are capable of very high accuracy, and the 6-31IG set I used for the examples above is not truly adequate. A number of basis sets have been carefully designed for correlation studies, for example the correlation consistent basis sets of Dunning. These go by the acronyms cc-pVDZ, cc-pVTZ, cc-pVQZ, cc-pV5Z and cc-pV6Z (double, triple, quadruple, quintuple and sextuple-zeta respectively). They include polarization functions by definition, and (for example) the cc-pV6Z set consists of 8. 6p, 4d, 3f, 2g and Ih basis functions. [Pg.201]

Objective Evaluation of Color. In recent years a method has been devised and internationally adopted (International Commission on Illumination, I.C.I.) that makes possible objective specification of color in terms of equivalent stimuli. It provides a common language for description of the color of an object illuminated by a standard illuminant and viewed by a standard observer (H). Reflectance spectro-photometric curves, such as those described above, provide the necessary data. The results are expressed in one of two systems the tristimulus system in which the equivalent stimulus is a mixture of three standard primaries, or the heterogeneous-homogeneous system in which the equivalent stimulus is a mixture of light from a standard heterogeneous illuminant and a pure spectrum color (dominant wave-length-purity system). These systems provide a means of expressing the objective time-constant spectrophotometric results in numerical form, more suitable for tabulation and correlation studies. In the application to food work, the necessary experimental data have been obtained with spectrophotometers or certain photoelectric colorimeters. [Pg.7]

The correlation studies of heat and mass transfer in pellet beds have been investigated by many, usually in terms of the. /-factors (113-115). According to Chilton and Colburn the two. /-factors are equal in value to one half of the Fannings friction factor / used in the calculation of pressure drop. The. /-factors depend on the Reynolds number raised to a factor varying from —0.36 to —0.68, so that the Nusselt number depends on the Reynolds number raised to a factor varying from 0.64 to 0.32. In the range of the Reynolds number from 10 to 170 in the pellet bed, jd should vary from 0.5 to 0.1, which yields a Nusselt number from 4.4 to 16.1. The heat and mass transfer to wire meshes has received much less attention (110,116). The correlation available shows that the /-factor varies as (Re)-0-41, so that the Nusselt number varies as (Re)0-69. In the range of the Reynolds number from 20 to 420, the j-factor varies from 0.2 to 0.05, so that the Nusselt number varies from 3.6 to 18.6. The Sherwood number for CO is equal to 1.05 Nu, but the Sherwood number for benzene is 1.31 Nu. [Pg.102]

In Table 3 we have listed the results of a basis set and correlation study for the hyperpolarizability dispersion coefficients. In a previous investigation of the basis set effects on the dispersion coefficients for the first hyperpolarizability (3 of ammonia [22] we found quite different trends for the static hyperpolarizability and for the dispersion coefficients.
