Copper reinforcement

Tekce H. Serkan, Kumlutas Dilek, and Tavman Ismail Hakki. Effect of particle shape on thermal conductivity of copper reinforced polymer composites. J. Reinforced Plast. Compos. 26 no. 1 (2007) 113—121. [Pg.214]

Almost all of the OX that is recovered is used to produce phthaUc anhydride. PhthaUc anhydride is a basic building block for plasticizers used in flexible PVC resins, for polyester resins used in glass-reinforced plastics, and for alkyd resins used for surface coatings. OX is also used to manufacture phthalonitrile, which is converted to copper phthalocyanine, a pigment. [Pg.424]

The main cause of anode wear is electrochemical oxidation or sulfur attack of anodic surfaces. As copper is not sufficiently resistant to this type of attack, thin caps of oxidation and sulfur-resistant material, such as platinum, are bra2ed to the surface, as shown in Eigure 15a. The thick platinum reinforcement at the upstream corner protects against excessive erosion where Hall effect-induced current concentrations occur, and the interelectrode cap protects the upstream edge from anodic corrosion caused by interelectrode current leakage. The tungsten undedayment protects the copper substrate in case the platinum cladding fails. [Pg.429]

Shipment ndStora.ge. The crystalline material is shipped as a nonha2ardous material, in polyethylene-lined fiber dmms. The solution can be shipped in dmms or bulk. Suitable materials of constmction for handling ammonium thiocyanate are aluminum, 316 stainless steel, mbber, poly(vinyl chloride), and glass-reinforced epoxy. Steel, 304 stainless steel, and copper alloys should be avoided (375,376). [Pg.152]

The metal fillers act as a reinforcing material that results in added strength and stiffness (126). They color the plastic gray for nickel, 2inc, stainless steel, and aluminum, and brown for copper. Metal additives are more expensive than carbon black or surface-active agents, but they get extensive use in EMI shielding appHcations. [Pg.296]

Organic clutch materials contain continuous-strand reinforcements in addition to fibrous reinforcements. These include cotton (primarily for processing), other organic yams, carbon—graphite yam, and asbestos yam, and brass wire or copper wire for high burst strength. [Pg.274]

Nonfibrous Reinforcements. Because of the higher costs associated with nonasbestos fibers and the performance requirements needed in replacing asbestos, platy minerals such as mica and talc, and metal powders such as iron and copper, are being used as a portion of the total reinforcement package in NAOs. [Pg.274]

Corrosion. Aqueous solutions of citric acid are mildly corrosive toward carbon steels. At elevated temperatures, 304 stainless steel is corroded by citric acid, but 316 stainless steel is resistant to corrosion. Many aluminum, copper, and nickel alloys are mildly corroded by citric acid. In general, glass and plastics such as fiber glass reinforced polyester, polyethylene, polypropylene, poly(vinyl chloride), and cross-linked poly(vinyl chloride) are not corroded by citric acid. [Pg.181]

Commercial bellows elements are usually hght-gange [of the order of (0.05 to 0.10 in) thick] and are available in stainless and other alloy steels, copper, and other nonferrons materials. Multi-ply bellows, bellows with external reinforcing rings, and toroidal contour bellows are available for higher pressures. Since bellows elements are ordinarily rated for strain ranges which involve repetitive yielding, predictable... [Pg.1001]

Grounding plates or lattices made of pure copper, while displaying good current-carrying capacities, do not provide a particularly low resistance due to the depth at which they can be buried. The third alternative is to bury lengths of copper tape around the installation. The use of reinforced concrete foundations for grounding electrodes has also recently been considered. [Pg.227]

A conductive polymer electrode has been designed specifically for the cathodic protection of steel reinforcing bars in concrete and is marketed under the trade name Ferex . The anode consists of a 16 AWG stranded copper conductor surrounded by a carbon-loaded polymeric coating similar to that used on the Anodeflex system ) to provide a nominal anode diameter of 8 mm The manufacturer claims that at the maximum recommended current density of 0 08 Am the anode life in concrete will be 32 years with a proportionately longer life at lower current densities. [Pg.189]

Test method for porosity in gold platings on metal substrates by gas exposures Test method for half-cell potentials of uncoated reinforcing steel in concrete Method for detection of copper corrosion from petroleum products by the copper strip tarnish test... [Pg.1098]

Note The principal reinforcement, with respect to quantity, is glass fibers, but many other types are used (cotton, rayon, polyester/TP, nylon, aluminum, etc.). Of very limited use because of their cost and processing difficulty are whishers (single crystals of alumina, silicon carbide, copper, or others), which have superior mechanical properties. [Pg.355]

Reinforcement for metal-matrix composites with such metals as titanium, titanium aluminide, aluminum, magnesium, and copper. Applications are found mostly in advanced aerospace programs and include fan blades, drive shafts, and other components. [Pg.471]

As was mentioned above, reports on the application of AFM in siru in electrochemistry are few. One such report concerns the study of the under-potential deposition (upd) of copper on gold and reinforces the need for caution when employing repulsive AFM to the study of adsorbed species. [Pg.92]
