Copolymers ethylene with vinyl alcohol copolymer

Thermoform able sheet may be mono- or multilayer with the latter produced by lamination or coextmsion. Multilayers are employed to incorporate high oxygen-barrier materials between stmctural or high water-vapor barrier plastics. Both ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymers and poly(vinyhdene chloride) (less often) are used as high oxygen-barrier interior layers with polystyrene or polypropylene as the stmctural layers, and polyolefin on the exterior for sealing. [Pg.454]

Small amounts of TAIC together with DAP have been used to cure unsaturated polyesters in glass-reinforced thermo sets (131). It has been used with polyfunctional methacrylate esters in anaerobic adhesives (132). TAIC and vinyl acetate are copolymerized in aqueous suspension, and vinyl alcohol copolymer gels are made from the products (133). Electron cure of poly(ethylene terephthalate) moldings containing TAIC improves heat resistance and transparency (134). [Pg.88]

Permeation in the vinyUdene chloride copolymer and the polyolefins is not affected by humidity the permeability and diffusion coefficient in the ethylene—vinyl alcohol copolymer can be as much as 1000 times greater with high humidity (14—17). [Pg.492]

One of the PVA derivatives extensively used in this field is ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer (EVOH). Their blends with different polyolefins are also effective as oxigen barrier materials. [Pg.170]

Copolymers of ethylene (E) or propylene (P) with acrylic acid (AA) or methacrylic acid (MA) were obtained from SP2 (USA) and used as received (EAA, PAA, PEAA, PMA). Copolymers of ethylene and vinyl alcohol (EVOH) were prepared by hydrolysis (NaOH 0,5M in methanol, reflux, 48 h), of commercial ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymers (EVA, Elf-Atochem) containing 5, 9, 14, and 18 w% of acetate. Hydroperoxides of EPDM based on 5-ethylidene-2-norbornene (0.7 mol Kg 1, Exxon) and polyoctenamer (Vestenamer, VEST, Hiils) resulted from a reaction of polymer films with singlet oxygen. [Pg.21]

Extrusion. Sheet, film, and profiled articles are made by extrusion (20). The resin is melted and forced through a die plate or head. Variations include multilayer and blown film applications. In multilayer coextrusions, different combinations of plastics are separately but concurrently extruded to form layered sheet or film. In the packaging industry, specialty resins such as high barrier ethylene—vinyl alcohol copolymers are combined with heat- and impact-resistant thermoplastics for food packages. The properties of each resin layer are additive, as opposed to the "averaging of property" in blends. Multilayers are also used for blow-molded containers, films, and sheet products (see also Film AND sheeting materials). [Pg.263]

In the ASAHI KASEI Medical (Tokyo, Japan) system, the plasmapheresis step is performed by a microporous membrane (Plasmaflo) made of a copolymer of ethylene and vinyl alcohol (PEVA), with a maximum pore size of0.3 pm. The extracted plasma flows through an activated charcoal column Hemosorba and an anion-exchange column (copolymer of styrenedivinyl benzene) Plasorba that binds bilirubin and bile acids [28]. Each column contains 350 mL of adsorbent. [Pg.428]

In the present work we have used, therefore, dextran as the water-soluble macromolecule to be coupled and a film of an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer (EVAL) as the substrate material. This copolymer has hydroxyl groups but is insoluble in water and can be injection-molded to yield a material with good mechanical properties. The coupling reaction of dextran onto the film surface will be achieved by using diisocyanate, since dextran, as well as EVAL, has hydroxyl groups which readily react with isocyanate under formation of urethane linkage. [Pg.218]

More industrial polyethylene copolymers were modeled using the same method of ADMET polymerization followed by hydrogenation using catalyst residue. Copolymers of ethylene-styrene, ethylene-vinyl chloride, and ethylene-acrylate were prepared to examine the effect of incorporation of available vinyl monomer feed stocks into polyethylene [81]. Previously prepared ADMET model copolymers include ethylene-co-carbon monoxide, ethylene-co-carbon dioxide, and ethylene-co-vinyl alcohol [82,83]. In most cases, these copolymers are unattainable by traditional chain polymerization chemistry, but a recent report has revealed a highly active Ni catalyst that can successfully copolymerize ethylene with some functionalized monomers [84]. Although catalyst advances are proving more and more useful in novel polymer synthesis, poor structure control and reactivity ratio considerations are still problematic in chain polymerization chemistry. [Pg.12]

A series of ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymers (EVOH) with different comonomer contents were studied by both solution state and soUd-state high-... [Pg.262]
