The Cartridge Concept - has every component part of the sealing system in one unit. They re easier and faster to install and don t require total pump teardown. Most come with additional control ports and rebuild kits. [Pg.214]

Such tight mixture control is beyond the capability of the traditional carburetor. Consequently, after sorting through a number of alternatives, industry has settled on closed-loop-controlled port-fuel injection. Typically, an electronically controlled fuel injector is mounted in the intake port to each cylinder. A sensor in the air intake system tells an onboard computer what the airdow rate is, and the computer tells the fuel injectors how much fuel to inject for a stoichiometric ratio. An oxygen sensor checks the oxygen content in the exliaust stream and tells the computer to make a correction if the air/fuel ratio has drifted outside the desired range. This closed-loop control avoids unnecessary use ot an inefficient rich mixture during vehicle cruise. [Pg.565]

FIGU RE 8.39 A flow cell constructed for non-coaxial shealth flow. The additional vertical position inlet of this flow cell allows positioning of the sample flow in the center of the channel. The horizontal control ports are used to position the sample flow with a horizontal shift. The perspective view, top view, and two cross-section views are shown [891]. Cas samples were periodically removed through a valve-controlled port at the top of the reaction vessel. A portion of each sample was injected into a Varian Aerograph Model 920 gas chromatograph with either a 5A molecular sieve column for measuring H2 and CO or a silica column for measuring CO2 and CO. Known H2/CO mixtures were used for calibration of the molecular sieve column. [Pg.95]

A schematic view of an analog or jet interaction amplifier is shown in Fig. 2a. The device consists of a supply nozzle, two inlet (control) ports, two outlet ports, and two vents. This device is geometrically symmetric about its vertical axis. A uniform jet is supplied to the amplifier via the supply nozzle. Depending on the flow rates at the control channels, there can be three types of scenario at the output channels. First, if there is no flow through the control inlet(s), the fluid jet... [Pg.1904]

Microfluidic Circuits, Fig. 2 (a) Schematic view of an analog, or jet, interaction amplifier [11], The supply jet exits through both of the outputs 1 and 2. The ratio of the mass flow rate at output 1 to that at output 2 is determined by the control ports 1 and 2. (b) Schematic view of a digital, or wall attachment, amplifier and its working principle [11]. The supply jet exits through either output 1 or output 2. Switching between these outputs is guided by the control ports 1 and/or 2... [Pg.1905]

The same research group also introduced a microfabricated digital wall attachment amplifier [11] for bistable control of flow. An SEM image of a microscale digital wall attachment amplifier formed on PMMA is illustrated in Fig. 6a. The pressure in one of the output ports (opposite to the control port used) is shown in Fig. 6b for various values of the control port pressure. The output pressures were measured at output 2, while the input control pressure was varied at inlet 1. In the experiment, a jet of 330 hPa pressure was supplied through the main nozzle, while the pressures at the control ports were varied from 0 to 12 hPa. The experimental results showed that if the jet was attached to the wall next to a control port, then temporary application of pressure (12 hPa) to that control port guided the jet to the opposite wall. The jet continued to flow along that wall after the removal of the control jet. A minimum supply pressure was needed for the action of this amplifier. The experimental results also showed that the supply pressure had no effect on the pressure recovery (ratio of maximum output to input pressure) and flow recovery (ratio of maximum output to input flow) in this amplifier. [Pg.1908]

A two-way valve has two functional flow-control ports. A two-way, sliding spool directional control valve is shown in Figure 9-10. As the spool moves back and forth, it either allows fluid to flow through the valve or prevents it from flowing. In the open position, the fluid enters the inlet port, flows around the shaft of the spool, and through the outlet port. Because the forces in the cylinder are equal when open, the spool cannot move back and forth. In the closed position, one of the spool s pistons simply blocks the inlet port, which prevents flow through the valve. [Pg.191]

The parallel port/printer adapter in a PC was previously intended to connect printers to computers. However, it was also used for connecting other devices to PCs. The printer adapter has three independent transistor-transistor logic (TTL) compatible ports an 8-bit output-data port, a 4-bit output-control port with open-collector drivers, and a 5-bit input-status port. The two output ports also have input registers at identical addresses. Writing to the data register causes the byte sent to be latched and to appear on the parallel port s 25-pin D-type connector. Reading this register returns the contents of the latch. Parallel ports have also been extensively used in measurement applications. The main... [Pg.303]

Any variable in P U Pc is called a port of /. In addition, a port in P is called uncontrolled and a port in Pc is called controlled. As mentioned in [2], uncon-trolled/controlled ports correspond to the tjrpical classification of input/output ports, respectively. [Pg.170]

The ports are explicitly partitioned into uncontrolled and controlled ports in the component instead of relying on profiles to partition the ports of implementations, contracts, and components as in (2), [6] and [7], although the same principles apply. [Pg.170]

Inputs and outputs to the blocks correspond to uncontrolled and controlled ports, respectively. Since we assumed that CAN delivers its signals immediately and with perfect accuracy (see Sec. 5.2), we choose to model signals over CAN as one variable. Fig. 2. In the third case the explosion exited from a pre-combustion chamber HAM with 19.9-22.5% H2 content was studied. The DDT process was recorded in experiments with more than 20.8% H2 content independently on the control port square area. As a rule, the DDT processes are initiated in areas of the pressure wave focusing ahead of the combustion zone. [Pg.234]
