Stepping motor

All motions are insured by six stepping motors sequentially driven by a programmable translator-indexer device fitted with a power multiplexer. [Pg.745]

Dry Lubricant. The static and dynamic coefficients of friction for the parylenes are low and virtually the same. This feature is an advantage in the use of a parylene coating as a dry lubricant on the bearing surfaces of miniature stepping motors. Coating a threaded ferrite core significantly reduces the abrasion to coil forms (82). [Pg.443]

Each solvent passes from its reservoir directly to a pump and from the pump to a mixing manifold. After mixing, the solvents pass to the sample valve and column. The pumps control the actual program and are usually driven by stepping motors. The volume delivery of each solvent is controlled by the speed of the respective pump. In turn, the speed of each motor is precisely determined by the frequency of its power supply which can be either generated by external oscillators or, if the chromatograph is computer controlled, directly from the computer itself. [Pg.126]

Another construction in which the mobile phase is delivered to the center of the chromatographic plate with the syringe coimected to the stepping motor was reported by Kaiser [17] and manufactured by CAMAG (Figure 6.11). The sample to be separated can be spotted on the plate in its center or 1 to 2 cm around its center. [Pg.139]

The output of a Nd YLF laser is focussed by a series of lenses to a spot size of 0.5 pm upon a sample which may be positioned by an x-y-z stepping motor stage and scanned by a computer-controlled high frequency x-y-z piezo stage. Ions are accelerated and transmitted through the central bore of the objective into a time-of-flight (TOF) mass spectrometer. The laser scans an area of 100 x 100 pm with a minimum step size of 0.25 pm. TOF mass spectra of each pixel are evaluated with respect to several ion signals and transformed into two-dimensional ion distribution plots. [Pg.62]

In addition to piezo scanners, the AFM may contain a stepping motor for coarse x-y positioning of the sample. Most instruments also possess a built-in camera for selecting the desired area of the sample and for positioning the tip at a distance of few pm from the surface. The final approach of the tip towards the surface is done automatically. [Pg.200]

The drive of the P-CAC units consists of a high precision stepping motor, a control panel, and a software package, which allows the column to be run in various different operation modes. [Pg.239]

Fig. 12.4. Single-tube STM. The tube piezo scanner is adhered inside a sturdy metal cylinder, which sits on three screws on the base plate. The two front screws make the coarse approaching. The rear screw makes fine approaching by using the two front screws as the pivot axis. The rear screw is actuated by a stepping motor for automatic approaching. The preamplifier (not shown) is mounted directly on top of the metal cylinder to eliminate the microphone effect of the coaxial cable between the tip and the input of the preamplifier. The entire unit is rigid enough that a mediocre vibration isolation device can provide atomic resolution. (After Hansma et al., 1988.)... Fig. 12.4. Single-tube STM.
