Contracts: advantages

Combining Tort and Contract Advantages. Two methods were available to allow plaintiffs an easier road to recovery. Courts either stripped the tort action of the necessity for estabUshing fault, or interpreted the UCC in such a way that privity was not necessary and the other Code defenses were not appHcable to cases involving personal injury or property damage. Either way a manufacturer would be open to dkect suit without the... [Pg.97]

Measured in MJ/m or Btu/ft, the Wobbe Index has an advantage over the calorific value of a gas (the heating value per unit volume or weight), which varies with the density of the gas. The Wobbe Index Is commonly specified in gas contracts as a guarantee of product quality. A customer usually requires a product whose Wobbe Index lies within a narrow range, since a burner will need adjustment to a different fuel air ratio if the fuel quality varies significantly. A sudden increase in heating value of the feed can cause a flame-out. [Pg.108]

A second issue is the practice of using the same set of exponents for several sets of functions, such as the 2s and 2p. These are also referred to as general contraction or more often split valence basis sets and are still in widespread use. The acronyms denoting these basis sets sometimes include the letters SP to indicate the use of the same exponents for s andp orbitals. The disadvantage of this is that the basis set may suffer in the accuracy of its description of the wave function needed for high-accuracy calculations. The advantage of this scheme is that integral evaluation can be completed more quickly. This is partly responsible for the popularity of the Pople basis sets described below. [Pg.79]

Cyclopentene-l-carboxaldehydes are obtained from cyclohexene precursors by the sequence cyclohexene - cyclohexane-1,2-diol -> open-chain dialdehyde - cyclopentane aldol. The main advantage of this ring contraction procedure is, that the regio-and stereoselectivity of the Diels-Alder synthesis of cyclohexene derivatives can be transferred to cyclopentane synthesis (G. Stork, 1953 G. BUchi, 1968). [Pg.81]

Polypropylene fibers are used in every aspect of carpet constmetion from face fiber to primary and secondary backings. Polypropylene s advantages over jute as carpet backing are dimensional stabiUty and minimal moisture absorption. Drawbacks include difficulty in dyeing and higher cost. Bulked-continuous-filament (BCF) carpet yams provide face fiber with improved crimp and elasticity. BCF carpet yams are especially important in contract carpets, characterized by low dense loops, where easy cleaning is an advantage. [Pg.322]

In addition to the plant workers, others may benefit from some special training related to the toll. It may be advantageous or required to consider laboratory personnel, technical support staff, management and others when planning training. Again, the contract may be the way to define this and document responsibility. [Pg.63]

Timely review means days, not weeks or months - therefore immediately a new customer document is received, it should be routed to a person authorized through procedures to carry out a review. It would be advantageous to set up an interface with your customers so that their documents are always routed to the same position in your company. The review should establish the applicability of the document and its impact on the contract. Any changed documents should be treated as an amendment to the contract and processed accordingly. [Pg.297]

A qualihed bid can make the offer void, and most organizations would disqualify a bid which was qualihed. An example of a qualihed bid would be where the specihca-tion says that electrical attendance is part of the contract, whereas the bidder says in his bid documents or in an accompanying letter that he has not included for electrical work, and is not prepared to carry it out. A common qualihcation is where a contractor puts forward a manufacturer of plant different to that specihed. The plant may be just as good, but the bid is nonetheless qualihed, and would give an unfair advantage to the bidder. [Pg.90]

Interruptible contract. There is an obligation for the user to provide an alternative standby fuel to be used at the request of the gas supplier. The maximum period of interruption is one of the conditions agreed in the contract. The advantage to the user is that he or she can obtain a more favorable gas price. The advantage to the supplier is that at times of peak demand, such as a cold winter, he can balance supply and demand without investing in excessive storage capacity. [Pg.262]

They are applied by wet paint spray techniques and have the advantage, over other paint systems, of long-term flexibility. Conventional alkyd systems may have an initial degree of flexibility, but within 12 months outside become rigid and then crack due to thermal expansion and contraction of the substrate. This phenomenon is less likely to occur with a well formulated vinyl solution. [Pg.751]

Far superior yields of l-(arylsulfonyl)-l//-azepines 16 are now available by a one-pot synthesis involving the action of sodium azide on an arylsulfonyl chloride under solid-liquid phase-transfer conditions which prevents the formation of acidic sulfonamides and, hence, the ring-contraction process.75 This procedure also has the advantage of avoiding the use of high pressures and the isolation and handling of the potentially explosive sulfonyl azides. [Pg.142]

LIMS as rented service— The application service provision provider (ASP) is a means of obtaining access to software applications without the need to acquire expensive licenses and hardware or employ high-cost support resources [7]. The application is hosted on a third-party site with system maintenance, backup, and recovery provided by a third party. Products and services can be rented for a contract period on a fixed cost per user/per month basis. The advantages of obtaining LIMS in this fashion include reduced cost in initial investment and reduced requirement of resources for maintaining the LIMS. The continued security and integrity of the data transferred over the Internet is a major concern for this type of LIMS. [Pg.60]

One of the most reliable direct search methods is the LJ optimization procedure (Luus and Jaakola, 1973). This procedure uses random search points and systematic contraction of the search region. The method is easy to program and handles the problem of multiple optima with high reliability (Wang and Luus, 1977, 1978). A important advantage of the method is its ability to handle multiple nonlinear constraints. [Pg.79]

The other major advantage was that the United States was not to be its only customer. In fact, before the plant was built Japan Gas Chemical contracted to buy half the urea output. Here the advantage of Alaska over any other United States location except Hawaii is a reduction in shipping costs. Kenai is 1,400 miles (2,250 km) closer to Japan than is any California location. This, coupled with the low raw material costs, would make its delivered cost less than most other Japanese fertilizer sources. When all these factors were considered, the Collier Carbon and Chemical Company reasoned it was cheaper to process the natural gas into ammonia at its source even with those difficult climatic and economic conditions than to ship the gas to a more advantageous location and then make ammonia. [Pg.26]

Jordan, J.H. How to Evaluate the Advantages of Contract Maintenance, Chemical Engineering, Mar. 25, 1968p. 124. [Pg.233]

The contractor can not lose on a cost-plus contract. However, if he ever wants another contract with the company he had better make certain costs are controlled. When there is a lot of construction under way and all contractors are busy, they will increase their profit margin on any firm bids. Under these conditions, a cost-plus contract may be advantageous. [Pg.361]
