Continued relevance

The relation of measured results to given values, e.g., critical levels, legally fixed values, regulatory limits, maximum acceptable values, is of continual relevance in analytical chemistry. In the analytical reality, the problematic nature of detection leads to the test statistics, strictly speaking to the t-test (Currie [1995, 1997] Ehrlich and Danzer [2006]). By means of that, it is tested, if the determined analytical result is significantly different from the average blank of the critical value, respectively. [Pg.249]

About 25 years ago, a major conference on coal science was held at The Pennsylvania State University. The papers presented at that conference were subsequently published as Coal Science, an out-of-print volume in the Advances in Chemistry Series of the American Chemical Society. Some of the chapters in that volume are still cited in current literature, a testament to the quality and continuing relevance of that work to the field of coal science. The conference organizer, Peter Given, had come to Penn State a few years earlier after a 10-year career with the British Coal Utilization Research Association. Even then. Given had established a reputation as a significant contributor to coal science. In the following years, he came to be recognized as one of the dominant coal scientists of the post-World War II era. [Pg.345]

The authors of this book have a scientific perspective that is strongly influenced by thermodynamics, and a conviction that the thermodynamic approach still has continuing relevance and importance. Our aim is to demonstrate how an understanding of the thermodynamic basis of the interactions of food biopolymers in aqueous solution and at interfaces can be used by food scientists and engineers to design colloidal systems with novel or improved characteristics — physico-chemical, nutritional, or sensory. The book is arranged in four parts. [Pg.416]

Nonetheless, this team concluded from its experiments with DPT "that peak experiences may constitute an intrinsic element of effective psychotherapy for some persons and that "rapid therapeutic progress in the course of short-term psychotherapy with cancer patients... is indicated by this study. In a comment also pertinent for anyone considering use of DPT, they observed that "when a peak experience does occur, its continuing relevance for daily living may be strongly dependent on the degree to which the associated insights are assimilated or transferred into the everyday self-concept and world view of the patient. ... [Pg.423]

As of this writing, 50 years have passed since Pehr Edman published his first note on chemical degradation of peptide chains, A Method for the Determination of the Amino Acid Sequence in Peptides. As testament to the continuing relevance of this technique, the following job announcement was recently posted. [Pg.104]

The presence of exempt polymers on the Inventory is the main continuing relevance of the old polymer exemption. However, a company that did file a hmited premanufacture notice under the old rule has the option of following the new rules or following the old rule and placing the substance on the... [Pg.166]

EPA has proposed TSCA rules dating back to 1994 banning certain small lead and zinc fishing sinkers, but those rules have never been finalized." The only continuing relevance of the proposed rule is that exporters must notify... [Pg.645]

Recalling that the First Special Session of the Conference of the States Parties to Review the Operation of the Chemical Weapons Convention (hereinafter the First Review Conference ) reaffirmed the continuing relevance and importance of the provisions of Article X of the Convention, and of the activities of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (hereinafter the Organisation ) in relation to assistance and protection against chemical weapons and that these provisions and activities have gained additional relevance in today s security context (paragraph 7.92 of RC-1/5, dated 9 May 2003) ... [Pg.432]

The First Review Corrference reaffirmed the continued relevance of the definitions contained in Article 11 of the Convention, which ensure the comprehensive nature of the prohibition of chemical weapons under the Convention. [Pg.487]

The Second Review Conference noted with concern that, along with the continued threat of the possible use of ehemieal weapons by States under any circumstances, the international community also faces the increased danger of the use of chemical weapons by terrorists or other non-state actors. In this context, the Second Review Conference recalled the decision of the Council concerning the OPCW s contribution to global antiterrorist efforts (EC-XXVII/DEC.5, dated 7 December 2001) and affirmed its continuing relevance. [Pg.511]

The Second Review Conference reaffirmed the continued relevance of the provisions of Articles XII to XV. [Pg.528]

The Third Review Conference reaffirmed the continued relevance of the definitions contained in Article II of the Convention, which ensure the comprehensive nature of the prohibition of chemical weapons under the Convention. The definitions contained in Article II, in particular, of the terms chemical weapons and chemical weapons production facility , were found to adequately cover the impact of developments in science and technology on the Convention s prohibitions and to provide for the application of these prohibitions to any toxic chemical, except where such a chemical is intended for purposes not prohibited by the Convention, and as long as the types and quantities involved are consistent with such purposes. [Pg.540]

Emphasizes the continuing relevance and importance of the provisions of article X of the Convention, welcomes the activities of the Organizahon for the Prohibihon of Chemical Weapons in relation to assistance and protection against chemical weapons, supports further efforts by both States parties and the Technical Secretariat to promote a high level of readiness to respond to chemical weapons threats as articulated in article X, and welcomes the effectiveness and efficiency of the increased focus on making fiiU use of regional and subre-... [Pg.732]
