Audit trails must be available for the duration of a record s retention period and protected from any form of alteration. It should be possible to establish the current value and all previous values of a record by using the audit trail. Normal working practices (procedural and built-in computer controls) should prevent audit trail content being altered without definitive authorization by a second documented supporting party. Audit trails need to be available with their electroruc records in human readable form for purpose of inspection. 

Asphaltene A polyaromatic component of some crude oils that has a high molecular mass and also high sulfur, nitrogen, oxygen, and metal contents. In practical work asphaltenes are usually defined operationally by using a standardized separation scheme. One such scheme defines asphaltenes as those components of a crude oil or bitumen that are soluble in toluene but insoluble in n-pentane. 

Content of medical surveillance, (i) Medical and work history. The comprehensive medical and work history shall emphasize neurological symptoms, skin conditions, history of hematologic or liver disease, signs or symptoms suggestive of heart disease (angina, coronary artery disease), risk factors for cardiac disease, MC exposures, and work practices and personal protective equipment used during such exposures. 

ANSI Z9.5-2003, Laboratory Ventilation, is intended for use by employers, architects, occupational and environmental health and safety professionals, and others concerned with the control of exposure to airborne contaminants. The book includes new chapters on performance tests, air cleaning, preventative maintenance, and work practices. It also highlights the standard s requirements and offers good practices for laboratories to follow. The book also offers referenced standards and publications, guidance on selecting laboratory stack designs, an audit form for ANSI Z9.5, and a sample table of contents for a laboratory ventilation management plan. 

EPA has developed a new lead hazard information pamphlet that addresses renovation-specific lead exposure concerns. The development of this pamphlet, including the public comments received on the format and content, is discussed in greater detail in a separate notice published elsewhere in the Federal Register. This renovation-specific pamphlet, entitled Renovate Right Important Lead Hazard Information for Families, Child Care Providers and Schools, better informs families about the risks of exposure to lead-based paint hazards created during renovations and promotes the use of work practices and other health and safety measures during renovation activities.

Combustion. The primary reaction carried out in the gas turbine combustion chamber is oxidation of a fuel to release its heat content at constant pressure. Atomized fuel mixed with enough air to form a close-to-stoichiometric mixture is continuously fed into a primary zone. There its heat of formation is released at flame temperatures deterruined by the pressure. The heat content of the fuel is therefore a primary measure of the attainable efficiency of the overall system in terms of fuel consumed per unit of work output. Table 6 fists the net heat content of a number of typical gas turbine fuels. Net rather than gross heat content is a more significant measure because heat of vaporization of the water formed in combustion cannot be recovered in aircraft exhaust. The most desirable gas turbine fuels for use in aircraft, after hydrogen, are hydrocarbons. Fuels that are liquid at normal atmospheric pressure and temperature are the most practical and widely used aircraft fuels kerosene, with a distillation range from 150 to 300 °C, is the best compromise to combine maximum mass —heat content with other desirable properties. For ground turbines, a wide variety of gaseous and heavy fuels are acceptable. 

Health and safety planning and implementation emphasize jobs and tasks. Many DOE or Army Corps of Engineers sites have an established work control system (WCS) that is focused at the job and task level. Workers are familiar with the WCS and understand its content because each work-task package includes checklists and permits. This is a normal part of daily work. The audit includes a review of the process safety information, inspection of the physical facilities, and interviews with all levels of plant personnel. Using the procedures and checklist, the team systematically analyzes compliance with the PSM Rule and any other relevant corporate policies. The training program is reviewed for adequacy of content, frequency and effectiveness of training. Interviews determine employee knowledge and awareness ofthe safety procedures, duties, rules, and emergency response assignments. The team identifies deficiencies in the application of safety and health policies, procedures, and work authorization practices to determine live actions.
