Conservation measures

Equations (9-59), (9-60), (9-61), and (9-62) may be used as they stand to assess expenditure on energy-conservation measures since a constant amount of energy is saved in each year subsequent to the capital outlay. However, the annual cash flows Acf corresponding to the energy savings remain constant only if there is no inflation or if the money values are corrected to their purchasing power at the time of the capital expenditure.

These aggregated, or macro, cui ves are especially useful for policymakers because they show the potential tradeoffs between energy consei vation policies and investments in new supplies. This is otherwise difficult because most energy conservation measures are small, highly dispersed, and cannot be instantly undertaken, while energy supplies (such as power plants) typically appear in a few large units. 

The rig selection will dictate the basic layout of the pad. Based on the necessary area needed to support its functions, ancillary equipment may be added in space conservative measures. In addition to the placement of various stationary rig site components, other operations such as logging, trucking and subsequent completion operations must be provided for. The most environmentally sensitive design will impact the least amount of area, and in that it will be the most economic. Potential pad sites and access routes should be laid out on a topographic map prior to the actual survey. At this time, construction costs can be estimated and compared. As indicated in Section 30.7, energy-conservation measures cost money, and in spite of the likely results indicated by any of the methods available (simple payback, discounted cash flow, etc.) it is possible that the organization s funds are not available for such schemes. Since plastics are generally made from hydrocarbon feedstocks they should be recycled to conserve energy. The most effectives energy conservation is to refabricate plastic items, though this is not always technically feasible. Under circumstances where recycling is not a feasible option the use of plastics in waste-derived fuels may be an acceptable conservation measure.

Newer homes seemed to be built with energy conserving measures in mind, although some owners of older homes (>15 years old), indicated that they added some form of insulation to render them air tight for energy conservation purposes. 

General supportive measures, including acetaminophen as an antipyretic (aspirin or other nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs may displace bound thyroid hormone), fluid and electrolyte replacement, sedatives, digoxin, antiarrhythmics, insulin, and antibiotics should be given as indicated. Plasmapheresis and peritoneal dialysis have been used to remove excess hormone in patients not responding to more conservative measures. 

Many of the conservation measures require detailed process analysis plus optimization. For example, the efficient firing of fuel (category 1) is extremely important in all applications. For any rate of fuel combustion, a theoretical quantity of air (for complete combustion to carbon dioxide and water vapor) exists under which the most efficient combustion occurs. Reduction of the amount of air available leads to incomplete combustion and a rapid decrease in efficiency. In addition, carbon particles may be formed that can lead to accelerated fouling of heater tube surfaces. To allow for small variations in fuel composition and flow rate and in the air flow rates that inevitably occur in industrial practice, it is usually desirable to aim for operation with a small amount of excess air, say 5 to 10 percent, above the theoretical amount for complete combustion. Too much excess air, however, leads to increased sensible heat losses through the stack gas. 

Many useful products, such as superglue and fire-retardant materials, are domestic spin-offs from research that is related to military applications. Military expense budgets are large, in part, because of the money required to support this research. Usually the INA is a very conservative measure of stability. Compensators are found by trial and error to reshape the INA plots so that the circles are small and the system is diagonally dominant. The INA method strives for the elimination of interaction among the loops and therefore has limited usefulness in process control where load rejection is the most important question. 

Psychiatrists most often use these medications to treat ADHD, narcolepsy, and refractory depression. Conservative measures are often sufficient to counteract the side effects of increased dopamine.
