Conciseness achieving

It shows concisely the existing vendor capacities for the raw material, planned expansions or new producers, demands for other uses, and demand within the analyst s company. In some cases, the report includes a wodd supply and demand balance. A key objective of a purchase profile report is to make the buyer as well informed as the marketing manager of the seller. If this is achieved, the buyer can often secure a beneficial purchase contract. [Pg.538]

The reason for an Exposition is so that there is a description of the system showing how it works and how it controls the achievement of quality. This is different from the policies and procedures. The policies are a guide to action and decision and as such are prescriptive. The procedures are the methods to be used to carry out certain tasks and as such are task related. They need to be relatively simple and concise. A car maintenance manual, for example, tells you how to maintain the car but not how the car works. Some requirements, such as those on traceability and identification, cannot be implemented by specific procedures although you can have specific policies covering such topics. There is no sequence of tasks you can perform to achieve traceability and identification. These requirements tend to be implemented as elements of many procedures which when taken as a whole achieve the traceability and identification requirements. In order that you can demonstrate achievement of such requirements and educate your staff, a description of the system rather than a separate procedure would be an advantage. The Exposition can be structured around the requirements of ISO/TS 16949 and other governing standards. It is a guide or reference document and not auditable. [Pg.164]

After we bemoaned the common perception that a short book is a low-level book, we reiterated our commitment to the principle that in treating general concepts in a concise way we would not sacrifice depth, rigoi or clarity. Our criteria for including material continue to be its importance and relevance to the student, not its difficulty. To achieve this, we decided on a three-pronged approach. [Pg.722]

On the basis of the examples addressed thus far, it is clear that radical reactions can accomplish manifold transformations in organic synthesis. One of the outstanding achievements of synthetic radical chemistry is the development of synthetic strategies based on controlled, tandem radical cyclizations. The efficiency of such strategies is exemplified in the substantial and elegant synthetic work of D. P. Curran and his group.54 The remainder of this chapter will address the concise total syntheses of ( )-hirsutene [( )-1]55 and ( )-A9(12)-capnellene [( )-2]56 by the Curran group. [Pg.407]

One of the possibilities is to study experimentally the coupled system as a whole, at a time when all the reactions concerned are taking place. On the basis of the data obtained it is possible to solve the system of differential equations (1) simultaneously and to determine numerical values of all the parameters unknown (constants). This approach can be refined in that the equations for the stoichiometrically simple reactions can be specified in view of the presumed mechanism and the elementary steps so that one obtains a very complex set of different reaction paths with many unidentifiable intermediates. A number of procedures have been suggested to solve such complicated systems. Some of them start from the assumption of steady-state rates of the individual steps and they were worked out also for stoichiometrically not simple reactions [see, e.g. (8, 9, 5a)]. A concise treatment of the properties of the systems of consecutive processes has been written by Noyes (10). The simplification of the treatment of some complex systems can be achieved by using isotopically labeled compounds (8, 11, 12, 12a, 12b). Even very complicated systems which involve non-... [Pg.3]

To achieve this goal, all of the chapters were rigorously edited, involving their amalgamation, division, or deletion, and many were reduced to approximately one-half to two-thirds of their previous size. This has been effected without loss of crucial information but with gain in conciseness and clarity. [Pg.698]

Muller and coworkers developed a concise domino process in which termination of an intramolecular arylation of an alkyne was achieved by a Sonogashira alkynyla-... [Pg.372]

Following the application of a Heck cyclization to a concise synthesis of the Strychnos alkaloid dehydrotubifoline [287, 288], and earlier model studies [289], Rawal employed a similar strategy to achieve a remarkably efficient synthesis of strychnine [290]. Thus, pentacycle 277 is smoothly cyclized and deprotected to isostrychnine (278) in 71% overall yield — an appropriate finale to this section ... [Pg.135]

The photocycloaddition precursor ent-6 was obtained from 19 by transformation into the corresponding acid chloride and AlCl3-mediated intramolecular acylation of the double bond. While the conciseness of this strategy is appealing, drawbacks are the low yields achieved in the individual reaction steps giving ent-6 in an overall yield of only 5%. [Pg.6]

A concise stereoselective synthesis of a myoinositol derivative has been achieved by ring-closing metathesis of diene 21 prepared from a readily available bis-Weinreb amide 20 of D-tartrate [Eq. (6.19)]. ... [Pg.160]

Conciseness can also be achieved through the use of parentheses, as a way to eliminate information that is superhuous ... [Pg.40]

Another technique employed by chemists to achieve conciseness is to use nominalizations. Nominalizations are nouns that are formed from other parts of speech, usually by adding such endings as -tion, -sion, -ment, -ity, -sis, and -ence. For example,... [Pg.41]

In these examples, you can see how the word respectively helps achieve conciseness. More important, it aids clarity. By grouping values together, trends in the data are easier to discern. To ensure that the correct meaning is conveyed when using respectively, it is crucial that the order of the first set of items (e.g.. A, B, C) parallels the order of the second (e.g., X, Y, Z). [Pg.152]

To see how authors report relevant background information in their Introductions, we consider hve examples (P14-P18). As you read these passages, notice how concisely they are written. The authors do not summarize one work at a time, in whatever order they choose instead, multiple references are grouped together in a logical sequence, ultimately leading up to the current work. (Hints for how to achieve such conciseness in your writing are included in part 2 of this chapter.)... [Pg.216]

A second strategy for achieving conciseness requires that you group related ideas and use punctuation appropriately. For example, when summarizing the literature, introduce related ideas with the phrase such as. Consider the following examples, juxtaposing a fabricated wordy passage with its more concise (authentic) counterpart ... [Pg.230]

Items grouped in a series may also be numbered (with numbers enclosed in parentheses) to achieve conciseness. [Pg.231]

When grouping related items to achieve conciseness, pay careful attention to parallelism. The preceding examples illustrate two types of parallelism ... [Pg.231]

Conciseness, a cornerstone of writing in chemistry, is expected by expert and scientific audiences. Revising and editing at this final stage offers additional opportunities to make your writing more concise. Consider the changes made in this example to achieve conciseness ... [Pg.575]

A concise total synthesis of dehydrohomoancepsenolide is achieved in an optically active form. The key steps are alkene metathesis and alkyne metathesis. A three-component coupling reaction affords dienyne 137, which undergoes ring-closing alkene metathesis in the presence of the first-generation ruthenium carbene complex to give 138,... [Pg.303]
