Cytotoxic compounds Induction effects can be masked by the decrease of cell viability, as most induction assays quantify substrate metabolism in situ (in the same cell culture plate that the cells are cultured) and assume that there is no change in cell number. Cytotoxicity evaluation therefore should always be performed concurrently with induction studies. A common problem with the use of fluorescence for quantitative analysis is that many compounds can effect quenching. Adsorptive quenching is so common that it is used in TLC to identify where a thin-layer plate may contain elution bands. In this case, the TLC plate contains a chemically bond fluorescent dye.
