Compound development

A series of components in a formulation can be optimized simultaneously through use of a computer optimization. A number of models are suitable for use in designed experiments (DelVecchio, 1997). Regardless of the technique or model selected, a series of simple steps is still pertinent before the experimental work is initiated  [Pg.462]

Select the appropriate analysis for the accumulated experimental data. [Pg.462]

Analyze the data within the context of previously published data and knowledge of the activity and characteristics of the raw materials investigated. [Pg.462]

Assess the statistical significance of the data (data scatter, test error, etc.). The designed experiment will then entail these steps  [Pg.462]

Define the key property targets, such as tensile strength, fatigue resistance, and hysteretic properties. [Pg.462]

Mercury. The fkst successful use of mercury as a fungicide occurred in 1913 (8). The fkst seed treatment compound developed was chloro(2-hydroxyphenyl)mercury [90-03-9] (1). Subsequentiy, a number of organic mercury derivatives having general formula RHgX have been used. [Pg.103]

Friction Materials. PhenoHc friction materials are made from mol ding compounds developed to meet the extraordinary demands required by friction elements in the transportation industries. Friction materials are used for brake linings, clutch facings, and transmission bands. A moderately high coefficient of friction, which is temperature-independent, is needed. In addition, the material must be high in strength, low in wear and abrasion, and resistant to moisture and hydrauHc fluids. [Pg.305]

Several promising antibacterial compounds are available and may be considered for use in U.S. aquaculture. In addition to sarafloxacin, other quinolones, flumequine and oxolinic acid, are already registered in Europe. However, resistance to both of these compounds developed in bacteria in just a few years (20). Enrofloxacin, [95106-60-6], C22H22FN2O2, a quinolone product of Bayer A.G. (Germany), is also a candidate for aquaculture registration in Europe and may be considered for registration in the United States. [Pg.324]

Additive inhibitors have been developed to reduce the contaminant coke produced through nickel-cataly2ed reactions. These inhibitors are injected into the feed stream going to the catalytic cracker. The additive forms a nickel complex that deposits the nickel on the catalyst in a less catalyticaHy active state. The first such additive was an antimony compound developed and first used in 1976 by Phillips Petroleum. The use of the antimony additive reportedly reduced coke yields by 15% in a commercial trial (17). [Pg.210]

The (en) compound developed nuclei which advanced rapidly across all surfaces of the reactant crystals and thereafter penetrated the bulk more slowly. Kinetic data fitted the contracting volume equation [eqn. (7), n = 3] and values of E (67—84 kJ mole"1) varied somewhat with the particle size of the reactant and the prevailing atmosphere. Nucleus formation in the (pn) compound was largely confined to the (100) surfaces of reactant crystallites and interface advance proceeded as a contracting area process [eqn. (7), n = 2], It was concluded that layers of packed propene groups within the structure were not penetrated by water molecules and the overall reaction rate was controlled by the diffusion of H20 to (100) surfaces. [Pg.237]

The stabilizing influence of small amounts of B (M/B > 0.25) in the voids of the metal host lattice varies with the mode of filling (partial or complete) of the interstitial, mostly O, sites and whether the compounds develop from the binary-intermetallic host lattice. The structures of B-rich compounds (M/B < 4) are mainly determined by the formation of regular, covalent B polyhedra (O, icosahedron) and the connections between them (B frame structures). Typical metal (M) borides therefore are found within a characteristic ratio of metal to boron 0.125 < M/B < 4. [Pg.124]

Research on the adsorption potentials of aqueous solutions containing various short-chain organic compounds, developed mainly by Kamieliski s school,is still intensively continued by his successors. The investigations also deal with mixed adsorbate sys-terns." " ... [Pg.40]

Reference compounds developed on the same plate together with UV light are used to locate the bands of the particular compoimd groups [38,39,57,70-73]. The applications with reference compoimds developed on analytical TLC plates prior to the preparative separations to And Rj values are far less numerous [74,75]. [Pg.374]

Use retrosynthetic analysis to suggest syntheses of the following compounds. Develop at least three outline schemes. Discuss the relative merits of the schemes and develop a fully elaborated synthetic plan for the most promising retrosynthetic scheme. [Pg.1267]

Fluoran compounds developing colors are not new, having been well known since early times. For example, the Beilstein Handbook of Organic Chemistry, XIX describes many fluoran compounds developing colors from yellow to red. These include 3, 6 -dimethoxyfluoran (4 yellow), 3 -chloro-6 -diethylaminofluoran (5 vermilion), and 9 -diethylaminobenzo[a]fluoran (6 red). [Pg.160]

Benzofluoran compounds develop more bathochromic color than the corresponding fluoran compounds because of the longer conjugated system. Thus, 9 -diethylaminobenzo[a]fluoran (27 R1, R2 = C2H5),20 9 -(A -ethyl-... [Pg.168]

The reaction of keto acids with phenols is mainly used to prepare fluoran compounds developing colors from orange to red. [Pg.180]

The reaction of the keto acids (66) with 4-alkoxydiphenylamines (75 R = CH3, C2H5) is widely used to prepare fluoran compounds developing green or black colors. The reaction in concentrated sulfuric acid gives intermediate phthalide compounds (76), which are then treated with base to convert into 2 -anilino-6 -aminofluorans (77) (Eq. 5). [Pg.187]

BMS A process for removing mercury from the effluent from the Castner-Kellner process. Chlorine is used to oxidize metallic mercury to the mercuric ion, and this is then adsorbed on activated carbon impregnated with proprietary sulfur compounds. Developed by Billingsfors Bruks, Sweden. [Pg.42]

Chlorex (1) A process for extracting lubricating oil stocks from petroleum fractions using 0,0-dichloro diethyl ether. Chlorex is also the trademark for this compound. Developed by Standard Oil Company (Indiana) in the early 1930s and used until the 1960s. [Pg.63]

Cleanair A process for pretreating gas streams before the Claus and Stretford processes for removing sulfur compounds. Developed by the J. F. Pritchard Company. [Pg.66]
