Iridium-catalyzed transfer hydrogenation of aldehyde 73 in the presence of 1,1-dimethylallene promotes tert-prenylation [64] to form the secondary neopentyl alcohol 74. In this process, isopropanol serves as the hydrogen donor, and the isolated iridium complex prepared from [Ir(cod)Cl]2, allyl acetate, m-nitrobenzoic acid, and (S)-SEGPHOS is used as catalyst. Communicable diseases continue to kill around 14 million people each year, mostly in the developing world. Infectious and parasitic diseases account for a quarter of the disease burden in low- and middle-income countries, compared to only 3 per cent in high-income countries (WHO 1999). According to the World Bank, eliminating communicable diseases would almost completely level the mortality gap between the richest 20 per cent of the world population and the poorest 20 per cent (Gwatkin and Guillot 2000). 

I once personally (once Ya right ) pushed the envelope to see how much of this scientific data (most of which was available 15 years ago) could be validated in the real world. I suppressed my cortisol (chemically), increased anabolism (also chemically) and increased metabolism (of course chemically) for 30 days. I ingested protein (complete) levels based upon basal plus 20%, and ate 2.5g of carbs (mostly maltodextrin and veggies) per LB of bodyweight while allowing fats to fall where they may. 30 days later I was 33 LBS heavier with a slightly lower body fat level. A major factor contributing to the variability in vitamin C content of potatoes is the storage time. Augustin et al. (44) reported a sharp decrease in the vitamin during the first 4 months of storage of potatoes at about 7°C and 95% relative humidity. Over the next 4 months there was either a complete leveling out or a less pronounced decrease. After 8-months storage all varieties appeared to contain about the same concentration of vitamin C (40-50 mg/100 g DWB).
