The kinds of resources needed are fairly straightforward. The primary resource requirement for most PSM implementation efforts will be staff-time, both professional and clerical/secretarial. It is also reasonable to expect to incur travel expenses at intervals throughout the process, especially for companies with multiple facilities. Support resources, such as telephone, computer time, facsimile, photocopying, and document production, will almost certainly be required in any initiative. [Pg.35]

The spread of technology at pharmaceutical companies also meant that secretaries were given word processors (such as the Wang machines) to use in addition to typewriters, which were still needed for filling out forms. Ev and I had parted earlier in 1975. Our relationship of convenience formed on the road had not flowered after we returned to careers and school stateside. Ev quickly found work and I did not. Later she enrolled in secretarial school and I went back to Cal to finish my degree in Conservation of Natural Resources. How far we seemed to have fallen from the exaulted vistas revealed at La Cho-rrera. Our lives were financially marginal, intellectually constrained, and eventually our attachments and interests went elsewhere. When the breakup finally came it was ugly and heartrending. We may have seen into the heart of the mysteries, but that did not mean that we were any wiser than ordinary people when it came to the affairs of our own hearts. Ev departed from my life in the company of an old friend of mine from my days at the Experimental College, and I was left confused and defensive by what felt like a double betrayal. [Pg.157]

The preparation of standards is carried out by the technical committees, their sub-committees and panels. Hence, we have, for example, PRJ/66 Hose and PRI 70 Elastomeric seals, and there is a coordination committee for input into ISO. Committee members are nominated by industry, government departments and research associations. The industry representatives are usually nominated by trade associations and not by the individual company, although individual experts can be co-opted. BSI supplies secretarial support, the level of which depends on how active the committee is and how important its work is considered. [Pg.36]

In 1989 I again retired from full time employment into a new position of Scientist Emeritus created by Dow Corning. As long as my health allows, I hope to continue active participation in the study of adhesion at interfaces. [Pg.18]
